Marie Kerr Obituary
Marie E. Kerr, age 88, of Conyers passed to her Heavenly Father and to her beloved husband, Jack, on Saturday, May 30, 2009 embraced by the love and prayers of her family and friends near and far who loved her so much. A Funeral Mass will be held Friday, June 5, 2009, at 10:00 a.m., at St. Pius X Catholic Church, with Father John Kieran as celebrant. Interment will follow at Green Meadow Memorial Gardens, in Conyers. Marie was born in Lake Leelanau, MI on July 17, 1920 where she graduated as Valedictorian from St. Mary's High School in 1939. She married Lt. John S. Kerr (Jack) of Ironwood, MI on September 29, 1945 in Lake Leelanau. They were blessed with three children, a long army career that forged friendships throughout the world and 62 years of a beautiful grace-filled marriage. Mary's faith in Jesus, devotion to her husband, Jack, near limitless hospitality and her unconditional love for her family and friends are her legacy. She is survived by her children, Richard Kerr of San Francisco, CA, Jacqueline Kerr & Gary Keith of Austin, TX, Greg & Betsy Kerr of Conyers; grandchildren, Julia Kerr & Andy Bright of Las Vegas, NV, Robert & Lindsey Kerr of Atlanta, John Kerr of Conyers, Gabriel & David Keith of Austin, TX; great-grandchildren Timothy Andrew & Jack Bright of Las Vegas; sisters, Olivia Grant, Caroline Murrell, Dorothy Peer and Esther Hannah of Ann Arbor, MI; brothers, Leo Richard of Traverse City and Phil Richard of La Palma, CA. She was preceded in death by her darling husband, Jack, who died January 7, 2008, her sister, Genevieve Poppenger and brothers, Louie & Ray Richard, and parents, Edmund & Clara (Eckerle) Richard. There will be a rosary service at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday evening, at the funeral home followed by visitation from 7 to 9 p.m. Mary asked that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to: The Shepherd's Lambs, P. O. Box 996, Englewood, FL 34295 (a ministry for orphaned children in Haiti) or the American Cancer Society. Horis A. Ward Funeral Home, Rockdale Chapel, (770) 918-8851.

Ms. Mary was angel even when she was hear to my family. We learned many things that God needed us to know to prepare us for our lives from her. Most of all she taught us the true meaning of unconditional love. The type of love that no matter who someone is, where they come from, where they are in life you should love them just as God loves us. I know she did, she did it to my family and I have met many more that her love touched. I know that it is ever flowing through her children, grandchildren, and so on because as I spend time with them I feel the same love. I am truely honored that I got to spend the last 3 1/2 years by her. My love goes out to everyone Ms. Mary came in contact with and I just hope that every thing God taught us through her stays with us and we share with others.

Richard, Jackie and Greg: The girls and I send our condolences to your family. I will always remember spending Christmas with your folks and Aunt Mary taking me to the Nutcracker when I stayed in Atlanta and my folks went on to Florida. What a great day we had. I'm only sorry we didn't live closer so we could have done more things together. We may only have memories left but what great memories they are. We send our love to all of you.

The world has lost a loving and caring person of mankind. We are so blessed to have been a part of Mary's family. There is a saying here in the north "If people were gotten from a store I would have chose Mary", except you wouldn't find her in a store as she was too busy doing the Lord's work and choosing other people to help and minister to. We know she has collected her reward and is with her Savior and loving husband. She will be missed but what a blessing to have had her 88 short years.
