Lola Chi Chu

Lola Chi Chu, 104, of Harrisonburg, VA passed away Friday morning, October 24, 2025 at Crestwood, VMRC. She was born in May of 1921 in China. She was preceded in death by her husband, Peter. Lola is survived by her daughter Jane (Jerry) Prey, of Harrisonburg, VA; son Joseph, of Vancouver, Canada: four dearly loved grandchildren, Kevin (Rose) Prey, Dana (Sara) Prey, Jenny (Brendan) Dawson and Emily Chu. She also has eight great-grandchildren, who will have many wonderful memories of her. Lola and Peter arrived in Chicago in fall 1948 with a baby, two trunks and two suitcases. They enjoyed a full and happy life with many friends and extended family. Lola was a woman ahead of her time. She worked outside the home as an accountant for a private insurance company and later for the state of Illinois. She had a thirst for learning new things and a determination to understand, even into her 90s. She and Peter moved to Harrisonburg in fall 1993. Unfortunately, Peter passed away soon after. Lola adapted to her new life with the same energy and determination as when they had first come to the United States. She made many friends, filling her time playing bridge, volunteering to help people with their taxes, walking, and traveling. She made friends wherever she went. We will miss her very much. A memorial gathering will be held at VMRC Park Gables on Saturday, November 8, 2025 from 2-4 p.m.
