Betty Melton Obituary

Betty "Polly" (Joyner) Melton Rocky Mount - Betty "Polly" Joyner Melton, 93, passed away December 24, 2023. She was born November 9, 1930 in Nash County to the late Lucille Long Joyner and James Henry Joyner. Betty was a devoted wife that supported her husband on the farm where they lived at Glenview in Halifax County. She worked many years as a supervisor of cut and sew operation and as quality control technician at Abbott Labs. After retiring she spent much time supporting her church and community and enjoyed line dancing, playing cards and travel in the United States and especially a tour of Israel (The Holy Land).

Betty was preceded in death by her husband Nathan Josh Melton; sister, Audrey Hooker; brothers Louis, Ed, Gordon and William (Bill) Joyner. She leaves to honor her memory a son, Nathan (Jay) Melton (Charlene), three daughters Linda Lou Griffin, Debbie Melton and Susan Hughes (Mike); grandchildren, Michael Hughes (Lucy), Josh and Sara Melton; great grandchildren Hannah Claire and Charlotte Hughes; and longtime friend and companion Thomas Short.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 6, 2024 in the Chapel of Cornerstone Funeral Home at 11:00 am with Rev. Chris Hall officiating. Visitation with family and friends will follow.
