Jonathan Felton Obituary
TARBORO - Edgecombe County Commissioner Vice Chair, Jonathan Kerr Felton, 82, passed awaypeacefully surrounded by family, Thursday, February 21,2019.
Jon served as a commissioner from 1996 until the time of his death.Jon served 47 years onthe Edgecombe Community College Board of Trustees including several years as Chairman of the Board. Jon was an active member of Concord Lodge No. 58 A.F.A.M. with Scottish Rites in Tarboro N.C. for 50 years. In 2018, Jon humbly received the Order of the Long Leaf Pine for his dedication and service to North Carolina.
A devout Christian, Jon was a member of the First Christian Church of Macclesfield, NC. Here, Jon again was a servant leader having participated in many church roles, including Chairman of the Board and Choir. Jon loved East Carolina Pirate football. He graduated from ECU following his US Air Force service. Jon was a member of the Pirate Club and was honored to be inducted into the ECU Pirate Van Sant Society.
Jon is survived by his wife of 64 years, Elizabeth, and children, Deborah Felton Lynn (Mike), Kathy Felton (Lee), Jonathan Kerr, Jr. (Marcia),and Alfonso Forbes, II (Sharon); 8 granddaughters, and 11 great-grandchildren. He is the son of the late Alfonso Forbes and Dora Ellis Felton and brother to the late Milburn Felton and Turner Felton.
A celebration of life with Masonic rites will be held February 23, 2019, at 1:00 p.m. at the First Christian Church (DOC), 200 W Green St., Macclesfield, NC, with visitation following.
