Bertha Bridges Payne Boyd

Mrs. Bertha Bridges Payne Boyd, age 91, of Rome, GA, passed away on Saturday, August 5, 2023, at her residence.

Mrs. Boyd was born in Floyd County, GA on May 3, 1932, daughter of the late Seaborn Horace Bridges and the late Annie Stansell Bridges. She was preceded in death by her 1st husband, Geston Tolliver Payne, to whom she was married in 1950 and who passed in February 1982, as well as her 2nd husband, Paul Boyd, to whom she was married on December 27, 1987, and who passed on February 1, 2016. Bertha was also preceded in death by her brother, Harry Bridges, her sisters, Louise Burk and Estelle Headrick, and her son, James Seaborn Payne.

Mrs. Boyd worked for Celanese Corporation for several years before going to work at Alto Park Elementary School. She made many good friends during the 27 years that she was the Secretary at Alto Park.

Bertha is survived by her daughter, Gesta Riggs (Richard); grandsons, Nicholas Riggs (Johna), and Ethan Riggs; great grandsons, Sam Masters and Graham Riggs; stepsons, Wayne Boyd (Janet) and Gary Boyd; several step grandchildren and step great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.

There will be a graveside celebration of life service at Beech Creek Methodist Church Cemetery on Thursday, August 10, 2023, at 6:00 PM with Pastor Randy Giles officiating.

In lieu of flowers, Bertha requested memorial donations to be made to either St. Jude Childrens Hospital or the Wounded Warrior Project.
