Mr. Wayne Kenneth Shellnut, Sr., passed away on Tuesday, August 8, 2023, born in Calhoun, GA, on July 1, 1935.

Graduated from Model High School in 1955. Awarded Most Valuable Player in all sports he played. He was in Model High School Hall of Fame as well as the Floyd County Hall of Fame.

Went to the University of Georgia on a football scholarship. After three years signed a professional baseball contract with St. Louis Cardinals as a pitcher.

Married the love of his life, Betty Anne Elliott, in July 1959, in Shannon, GA, at the First Methodist Church.

He went on to have three sons Ken, Todd, and Eric Shellnut who he always wanted the best for, and he enjoyed coaching them in their sports. He was also filled with pride over his sons.

Worked at Eastern Airlines as a refueler for 28 years before moving back home with his family to Rome, GA, and went to work for Floyd County for 18 years as a security officer and then retired for health reasons.

A member of Independent Methodist Church of Plainville, GA.

He visited friends and family in nursing homes and hospitals regularly.

Above all he was a very kind and good man who put others needs before his own.

Last, but not least, he began to love and play a lot of golf at Stone Bridge where he played in a lot of tournaments and won several of them.

Wayne wanted to make a special shout out to his best friend, Humphrey Cole, who has been by his side and a steadfast friend. And many thanks to Winthrop Nursing Home and all staff for their wonderful care and to Wayne's Angel, Janice Bagby, who was a considerable blessing during the sunset of his life.

For those of us who grow up without fathers, coaches play a special role in our lives. Wayne Shellnut was one of the greats for me. The thing I will always remember is how fun he made playing football. He was truly special. Thank you, Coach, for everything you did for me. You made a difference in my life.

May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow.
Wayne was a very special and good individual in many ways during his life as I read his obituary, plus his loving wife shared with me. I never had the pleasure of meeting Wayne. Betty you were the love of his life and he was yours, as I testified how you went daily several times to make sure he was ok and spend time with him, even though he had the best care. Your love stood out. Hang on to those wonderful memories and your beautiful family. Take care and God bless. I miss seeing and talking to you.
Love and prayers,
Judy L. Evans

May God’s loving Spirit be a source of comfort and strength to Wayne’s family during this most difficult time. Wayne was a classic example of a faithful and loving husband, father and friend. A truly good man that will be greatly missed. To know him was to love him.

wayne was a very special friend to us and we will miss his "I love you" every visit to the Nursing Home. I believe he is home with Jesus and maybe playing ball of some kind. If Betty needs anything I will always be there, for his boys also.May his extended family give comfort to Betty at this time in her life.
