Charlotte Bourgeois Obituary

BOONVILLE - Charlotte (White) Bourgeois, 86, formerly of State Rt. 12, Town of Leyden, and widow of Augustus, passed away on Friday, October 18, 2024, while surrounded by her loving family at Sunset Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Boonville, where she had resided since November 2021.

She was born in Port Leyden on August 17, 1938, a daughter of Robert L. and Mildred I. Brinkerhoff White She grew up in Port Leyden, graduating from Port Leyden Central School with the Class of 1956. Charlotte was employed as a waitress at Slim's Restaurant and at Holland's Diner, both in Port Leyden, before many years of employment at the Buffalo Head Restaurant, Forestport.

On July 9, 1956, Charlotte was united in marriage with Augustus W. "Gussy" Bourgeois at St. Martin's Church, Port Leyden. After their marriage the couple lived in Boonville and Poland, NY, before constructing their residence on Rt. 12 in the mid-1960s. Mr. Bourgeois, a long distance truck driver, and a talented musician who had played in many area bands, passed away on February 24, 2011.

Charlotte was a member of St. Martin's Church, Port Leyden. She found great joy in her life from raising flowers, taking care of her home, especially mowing the lawn. During the 1950s, she played accordion for the original East Road Rhythm Riders Band, and she enjoyed playing the piano, crocheting, crossword puzzles, and raising gladiolas and flowers.

Charlotte greatly loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and family. She is survived by her children: Teresa J. Bourgeois (Wig), Port Leyden, Augustus "Mophie" (Annette) Bourgeois, Boonville, and Kip (Jennifer) Bourgeois, Elizabethtown, KY; grandchildren: Colby Post , Joshua Post, Cory Poore, Daniel (Sarah) Bourgeois, Kristen Bourgeois (Nathan), and Alex (Aleecia) Bourgeois; great-grandchildren: Harley Post, Connor Bourgeois, Zachary Bourgeois,Valkyrie Schleicher, Killien Schleicher, and Dexter Ortlieb. Charlotte is also survived by siblings, Debra Snyder, Ronald White and MaryLou Straw, and brother in-law, Michael Bourgeois, many nieces and nephews. Charlotte was predeceased by her husband of 54 years, Gussy, in 2011, grandson Donald Post, granddaughter Harley Mae Bourgeois, and great-grandson Roman Bourgeois.

Her funeral was on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, at 1 p.m. at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc., 143 Schuyler St., Boonville, where Rev. Daniel Chapin, pastor of St. Martin's Church, presided. Interment was in Calvary Cemetery, Port Leyden. Calling hours were Tuesday from 10:30 a.m. until the funeral at 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
