Corey Alan Reynolds, 53 years old of Verona, New York passed away surrounded by his family on March 22, 2025 after a long hard-fought battle with metastasized colon cancer. He was known for his quick wit and ability to make everyone around him laugh, even during tough times. In true Corey fashion, he wrote part of his own obituary to ease the burden for his family (and have the last word).
Hey! It's me, Corey, (Corey Alan Reynolds "Ice"). If you're reading this, it means I'm already dead. That sucks! I didn't want my wife to have to write this about me since I am sure she will be devastated. (And I also didn't want the funeral home to be in charge of it!) So, I figured I would write my own obituary, with the help of google templates. First things first -- the facts. I was born in the small town of Vienna, New York, but moved around a lot during my younger years. Eventually we moved back to Vienna when I was in the 7th grade, and I ended up graduating from Camden High school in 1990. I went on to attend college and graduated later than expected with an associate degree. I enlisted in the Army Reserve and served from 1992 - 1998 and in 2004 I enlisted again but this time with the New York Air National Guard. I finished my career by serving 20+ years active duty in the New York Air National Guard at the old Griffis Air Force base; specifically at the Northeast Air Defense Sector (NEADS) which eventually expanded to Eastern Air Defense Sector (EADS). This accumulated into 28 years of total service protecting our homeland and serving our country. Just prior to retirement, I was diagnosed with Colon/Rectal Cancer and following radiation, chemo, and surgery the cancer metastasized to my lungs & liver, which is the reason you are reading this obituary.
In between my time in the military, I decided to go to work at Liberty Resources, Inc., where I ended up staying for over 10 years. I met so many amazing people there, including my wonderful wife, Martha. We were nuts and went on to raise our 3 kids, all of whom were a handful and a half, but my greatest joy and pride in life. As you know, my family means everything to me and I hope they are able to move past my death with strength in their hearts. To my family: please know how much I love you, how proud I am, and how I can't wait to see you once you get to wherever it is I'm going.
No grand religious services will be held (at my request!), but I think the wife and kids will be planning some type of celebration of life for me. Please feel free to attend this party and check out a short video of my life with music. There is only one request and that is to reminisce and remember only the good times (leave the bad stuff for another day/time).
Together with his wife Martha (Clendening) Reynolds for 25 years, he is also survived by daughter Caryn (David) Redner of Lee, NY; sons Drew Rogers and Zack Reynolds of Verona, NY; parents Mariellen & Arthur Boberg of Pace, FL; brother Kevin (Roxanna) Ammer of Seafood, DE; sister Kristen (Andy) Todd of Arab, AL; sister Kendra Smith (Calvin Moore) of Milton, FL. He is also survived by several nieces & nephews, cousins, and aunts & uncles. He was predeceased by his grandparents Jane (Evans) & Jack Lewis, grandfather John Reynolds, as well as his aunt Sandy (Reynolds) Lebreche. He has also now been reunited with his beloved bulldog Gannondorf Bulldog Reynolds.
When he wasn't spending time with his family or protecting his country he was out in nature with his best friend since middle school, Rob Crossway of Verona Beach, NY. Together they would spend mornings fishing Oneida Lake or walking the banks of various rivers/streams in the summer and hunting in the fall. Winters were spent texting to relive the previous year's successes and failures of the adventures with Springs spent planning their upcoming ones.
Calling Hours will be held on March 31st, 2025 from 3pm-6pm at Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome, NY 13440. In lieu of flowers please consider sending donations to causes that were important to Corey such as Air Force
Wounded Warrior (AFW2) program, Hospice and Palliative care of New Hartford, Upstate Foundation for cancer research, or the US Dept of Veteran Affairs.
