Eleanor Litwin Obituary

Eleanor R. Litwin, age 84, of the Town of Lee, passed away peacefully on March 20th, 2025, at the Wynn Hospital surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Rome on May 17th, 1940, Eleanor was a cherished daughter of the late Walter and Gladys Reczko Fassler and graduated from Camden High School. Eleanor embraced her role as a homemaker with dedication and love, creating a warm and nurturing home for her family. She worked as a cashier at Grossman's and Stewarts and was also a lunch monitor at Stokes School. She was formerly married to Richard Gawarecki Sr. which resulted in four beautiful children. After her divorce of Richard, she married Paul Litwin. Both Richard and Paul preceded her in death. Her commitment to her community was evident through her life membership with the Lee Center Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and her active participation in St. Joseph's Church. Eleanor also liked music, especially the Nelson Brothers, her pond and flowers, and trips to Old Forge.

Eleanor's greatest joy came from spending time with her family, creating memories that will be cherished for generations. Her warmth, kindness, and unwavering spirit touched the lives of all who knew her.

Eleanor is survived by her daughters, Kathy Tanner of Lee Center, and Lori Hammon of Taberg; her sons, Rick (Tracy) Gawarecki of Taberg, and Walter (Millie) Gawarecki of Lee Center; her grandchildren, Amanda (Paul and their family), Jennifer (Dale), Dan (Christine), Haley (Nathan), Ashleigh (Nick), Keith (Marina), and Daniel (Savannah); her great grandchildren, Caitlin, Brooke, Bailey, Lacey, Jace, Oliver, Darryl, Kennedy, Logan, a set of twin boys due in May, and a baby girl due in July; her two sisters; several nieces and nephews including Paul's family and a special niece, Pam Mandryck, who helped take care of Eleanor; many special friends including Sherm Gallay, Tony and Sophie Lattanzio, Lucy Delaney, and Sandy "Puppycookie;" and her K-9 companion Count Harold "Howard." She was predeceased by her companion of recent years, Dave Hall, who passed a day before her on March 19th, and a brother.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday at 11 AM, at St. Joseph's Church in Lee Center.

Relatives and friends may call at the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street, on Monday from 5 to 7 PM.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Eleanor's name may be made to the Lee Center Fire Department and/or St. Joseph's Church.

Eleanor's family extends their heartfelt gratitude to all who have offered their support and condolences during this difficult time.

When Ellie worked for the lumber company and when Paul worked for Bernie Bus Service. I all wished her a Happy Mothers Day and then a Happy Birthday and she would say the same to me. My birthday is the 13th. I have many fond memories of them both.

Sorry for the loss of a dear friend, we shared many talks together with Paul at Birnie Bus Service. So many friends and family we knew together we talked about . They knew I had a great interest in genealogy and the area all around Rome and NY state. Blessing to all!

I am so sorry for your loss. "Ellie" was a special lady, we had many good times and laughed, and I am so glad that I got to know her and spend time with her. She will always hold a special place in my heart. She was like a grandmother to me. Rest in peace my dear friend.

I am saddened by her passing but I know she is at peace and no more suffering. Ellie was a wonderful woman who had a great sense of humor. I enjoyed our lunch dates and phone calls, many laughs were shared. She was a warm and caring woman who loved her family. She will be missed!! Thank you Ellie for being there and loving me.
