Gary Yerman Obituary

Gary J. Yerman, age 80, of Rome, passed away peacefully on March 27, 2023, at Rome Health.

Gary was born in Utica on December 2, 1942, to the late Kermitt A. and Emma Jones Yerman, and educated in the Utica Schools. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army Reserves. He was united in marriage to the former Geraldine "Gerry" Jesmain in September of 1964. He retired from Niagara Mohawk in 1994, where he worked as a line foreman. He continued to work part time at Birnie Bus in Rome.

Gary enjoyed hunting and baseball, and was an avid Syracuse Basketball fan. He had a strong work ethic and was a member of the 25 years club at Niagara Mohawk. His determination and positive attitude helped him during his 14-year cancer battle.

Gary is survived by his loving wife, Rev. Geraldine "Gerry"; his daughter, Christine (David) Dieruf of OH; his son, Gary G. (Sharon) Yerman of NJ; his granddaughter, Gianna; his sister-in-law, Lisa Jesmain of ME; and his niece and nephews, Kim O'Keefe, Kris, Kyle, Kary, Kreg, and Kurt Yerman. He was predeceased by his brother, Kermitt E. Yerman.

The family would like to extend their thanks and appreciation to Drs. Cotronea, Butala, Berg, and Wassel and their staff for supporting us. We will always remember them. We also want to thank the Full Gospel Fellowship and the Northeast Institute of Biblical and Theological Studies of Corinth, NY for their prayers and support. We will always be grateful for Rev. Thomas Switala and his staff. Last but not least, we thank our family and dear friends for their help and support and especially their prayers. God hears and moves when we put our total trust in him.

A graveside service will be held at Lee State Cemetery in the spring.

There are no calling hours.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street.
