Shirley Hake Obituary
Shirley was a West Leyden (NY) High School valedictorian in 1957, enjoying band and cheerleading, attended New York State College for Teachers in Albany, and was employed by Jordan-Elbridge Central School until her retirement. She was a 35-year member/officers of the Morning Star Chapter in the Order of the Eastern Star.
Her love for dogs was unconditional and a constant joy looking forward to her daily visits with the local black cat considered good luck and prosperity in Irish folklore. Her extensive teddy bear collection rivaled no other!
Shirley was predeceased by her husband Donald in 2022, her son Bret in 2004, and siblings Doug, Joan, and Wayne. She leaves behind sons, Brian (Kim) and Bruce (Dawn); five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Gail Bauer LaQuay; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours were from 1-3 p.m. on Sunday, January 11, 2026 at the Bush Funeral Home, 120 E. Main Street (Route 5) Elbridge. An Order of the Eastern Star service was held at 3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Donations may be made in memory of Shirley Hake to St. Francis Service Dogs, 8232 Enon Dr., Roanoke, VA 24019; or Redeemer Lutheran Church, 10 Prospect St., Auburn, NY 13021.
