I knew Anibal while he was a student at Elgin Community College and was so impressed with him and his leadership and dedication as a student.

My Deepest and Most Heartfelt Sympathy goes out to the family of Sgt Anibal Santiago, with profound gratitude for this Brave Soldier's Courage, Dedication and Service to our Country and for Freedom.

The Final Salute
“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.
This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to our Brother-in-Arms Sgt. Anibal Santiago. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Anibal. And to Anibal it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the ultimate sacrifice he made for his country while opposing enemy forces in Afghanistan. No greater love is shown than a man lay down his life for another. Anibal, you are a brave American Warrior, a true Patriot and a national Hero. With your passing, our Country has lost a National Treasure. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at ease. Rest in Peace.

I served with your Anibal on the Rockford Police Dept. Being Navy, also, we had a unique relationship other officers didn't have. Although I was a senior officer, I always thought well of Anibal. I spoke to him after he was back from his first entry into the Army and remember how up beat and positive he was to be back serving. I know he had found his place and was happy. It sadden my heart to know he is gone, but knowing how he felt also strengthens it.

Sorry Santiago family for your loss. may god be with you in these times. Anibal was a great man I worked from him when he had his motorcyle shop. He made the ultimate sacrifice that many never would do for the country.

To Mandy, the Children, the Parents and other family and friends. The right words are so hard to find. Anibal was a hero, a good husband, father, son and friend. He was taken from us but the memories are here forever. Keep those memories fresh by speaking of him often. We know your pain all so well and we're here if you need anything.
