JEFFREY S. WHITMAN, 63 LOVES PARK - Jeffrey S. Whitman, 63, of Loves Park passed away at home Friday, September 4, 2015, following a seven month battle with leukemia. Born February 25, 1952, in Rockford, the son of Charles Edwin and Dorothy A. (Johnson) Whitman. Attended Harlem High School and graduated in 1970. Married the "love of his life", Lori Dixon on May 7, 1988. They were blessed with one son, Scott, Jeff's "pride and joy," and a "perfect daughter-in-law," Myranda. Jeff spent his life in the paint business and was very honored to have served the last ten years with Nicholson Hardware. He much enjoyed the friendships made with his customers. Jeff had a passion for music and poetry and for tinkering in his garage. He was renowned for his sense of humor, and brought many a smile to others with his jokes, stories and pranks. Proud member of Blackhawk BMW Motorcycle Club, Phantom Regiment Alumni, Rockford Burns Club and a 20 year member of Clan MacAlpine Pipes and Drums. Survivors include his wife, Lori; son, Scott (Myranda) Whitman; and a grandchild on the way; sisters, Vicki Whitman (Gary) Pasch and Kristi (Mark Johnson) Whitman; stepmother, Helen Barnhart; nephews, Blake Johnson and Austin Dixon; niece, Alicia Dixon; sister-in-law, Susan Dixon; brother-in-law, Douglas (Kristi Miller) Dixon; and an abundance of loving family and friends. Predeceased by his parents. Memorial service at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, September 10, in Delehanty Funeral Home, Ltd., 401 River Lane, with visitation from noon to service time. A celebration of life will also be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, at the Venetian Club of Rockford, 2180 Elmwood Road. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established.
