John Spedding Obituary

JOHN I. SPEDDING, 78 ROCKFORD - John I. Spedding, 78, of Rockford died at 9 p.m. Saturday, June 26, 2010, in his home. Born Dec. 13, 1931, in Freeport, the son of John P. and Inez (Poe) Spedding. Veteran of the U.S. Navy. Married Shirley M. McGrath on Oct. 17, 1954, in Freeport; she died Sept. 19, 1996. Employed by Woodward Governor, retiring in 1992. Member of Riverside Community Church. Survivors include son, Steven (Jennifer) Spedding of Loves Park; daughters, Pam (Phil) Taber of Mobile, Ala., and Rhonda Lewis of Phoenix; grandsons, Zachary Stafford, Cavan (Eryn) and Evan Spedding, Jacob and Ian Payne; great-granddaughter, Avelynn Spedding; several nieces and nephews; mother-in-law, Edith Kerlin; and sister-in-law, Phyllis (John) King of Sun City, Ariz. Predeceased by parents; and sisters, LuEllen Nowak and Dorothea McDearmon. Special thanks to Dr. Aaron Coates and staff, VNA Hospice and to all the caregivers over the last two years who have made Dad's life better. Memorial service at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 30, in Riverside Community Church with the Rev. Bobby Sheets officiating. Visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 29, in Delehanty Funeral Home Ltd., 401 River Lane, Loves Park. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established. Sorry to hear of John's passing. I enjoyed the time I got to spend with him. He will forever be held in my heart.

When I started at Woodward in 1979, John was always so nice and friendly to me. It was fun talking to him back in his phone room. Very nice guy, Sorry to hear of his passing.
