Kurt Johnson Obituary
Kurt David Johnson, 79, celebrated his second birthday into heaven on February 21, 2018, after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born and raised in Rockford to Rev. Elmer and Lilly (Westlund) Johnson. He was a graduate of East High School and Northern Illinois University with a degree in accounting. Kurt worked in the local manufacturing industry becoming the Fourth Family Owner /CEO of Excelsior, Inc., retiring in 2012. Kurt and Kathy (Leisher) were married December 31, 1981, in Rockford. They moved to Roscoe in 1989. Kurt was an avid golfer and proud owner of Two Holes-In-One. He was a member of Rockford Country Club where his greatest achievement was winning the Nelson Cup Tournament in 2010. He enjoyed playing golf in Scotland, Ireland, and Germany. Boy's golf trips were always special for him. Kurt loved the Bears and the Cubs, often going to training camps. He was an All-Star baseball Little Leaguer as a boy. Kurt was a witty, caring and fair man, always enjoying interacting with people of all walks of life. Now he is our "Haloed Hero" and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Kathy; children, Deanne Fletsch, Erik (Kimberly) Johnson and step-son, Jason (Kelly) Young; grandchildren, Jessica, Jeremiah, Josiah, Noah, and Cooper; and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by parents; siblings, Lee Johnson, Lou Larson and Rachel Johnson; and son, Doug Fletsch.
Per Kurt's wishes there will be no visitation or services. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Our thanks and gratitude to Swedish American Cancer Center, Heartland Hospice Staff and Nurse Amy, and Kurt's short stay at Alden Debes Nursing Home and their staff.
