LARRY DALE SOWELL, 63 ROCKFORD - Larry Dale Sowell, 63, of Rockford departed this earthly life Monday, September 9, 2013, in Rockford Memorial Hospital, after a sudden illness. He was born November 5, 1949, in Rockford, IL; the son of Mary and Henderson Sowell Sr. Larry finished at Rockford West High School which influenced him to receive his Bachelors in Business Administration at Western Michigan University. He began his journey by becoming the President and Director for Blackhawk Community Center. Member of St. Cathedral Church. Larry leaves to cherish many loving memories to the love of his life for 24 years, Maxine Leavy-Sowell; mother-in-law, Loubirda Leavy; two sisters, Catherine Jones of Rockford, Illinois and Queenie Bedford of Athens, Alabama; daughters, Torrisse White-Sowell of Texakana, Texas and Javelle Devereuaeawax of Rockford, Illinois; four sons, Larry Sowell Jr., of Texarkana, Texas; Jesse Leavy and Latre Sowell of Rockford, IL and Quinten Sowell of DeKalb, Illinois; eleven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a host of nephews, nieces and other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by both parents; brothers, Henderson Sowell Jr., Billie Sowell and Bennie Sowell; sister, Joann Sowell; and one granddaughter, Harmony Sowell. Service at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 21, 2013, in Pilgrim Baptist Church, 1703 S. Central Ave., with visitation from 9 a.m. to time of service. Pastor Board will deliver the eulogy. Burial in Cedar Bluff Cemetery. Arrangements completed by Collins & Stone Funeral Home, 128 S. Fifth Street Rockford IL.
