Marshall Jones

MARSHALL A. JONES, 88 ROCKFORD - Marshall A. Jones, 88, passed away on August 8, 2013. Born in Chicago and adopted with his twin sister, Marian, by C. Avery and Edith Marian (Osborn) Jones. He was a graduate of Cornell College and a Navy Seabee during WWII. In 1951, he married Marilyn McCaffrey. After Marilyn's passing, he married Virginia Barker. He was an accomplished insurance agent and also worked for the U.S. Census. He was a participating Catholic in several parishes in Rockford. He is survived by wife, Virginia; sons, Dean, Brian, Matthew, Steven and Robert Jones; daughters, Marsha Phillips, Patricia Hornbeck, Marianne Creed, Elizabeth Bruder, Nancy Sherman and Christi Jones; step-children, Kenneth Barker, Elaine Bruckner and Karen Hyde; 39 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren that knew him as "Papa Jones"; twin sister, Marian Frew; brother, Richard; and his beloved dog, JonZ. Preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Marilyn; and his son, Daniel. Visitation from 4 to 6 p.m. with prayer service at 6 p.m. on Friday, August 16, at Honquest Family Funeral Home, 4311 N. Mulford Rd., Loves Park, followed by a gathering at the Lyran Society, 1115 4th Ave., Rockford. Mass at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 17, at St. Patrick's Church, 32 N.
