Michael Kuzmin Obituary
Michael John Kuzmin, 67, of Loves Park, passed away Thursday, April 23, 2020. He was born on September 26, 1952 in Rockford to Nicholas and Maria (Misiuk) Kuzmin. Nicholas and Maria came to America via Ellis Island from a refugee camp in Germany in May of 1950 to give their family a better way of life. Mike and his three sisters are thankful they did.
Mike was a 1970 graduate of East High School and went on to earn a Bachelor's degree in Sociology from NIU. Mike married his wife, Jane, October 4, 2002. He enjoyed a long career in furniture sales. He spent the last 15 years in sales at Slumberland in Rockford. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, his Slumberland family was unable to visit in person but they were able to arrange a parade past his house for him. He and his wife loved that.
Mike loved to travel and especially enjoyed his yearly road trips with his wife to her hometown of Pontotoc, Mississippi.
Survivors include his wife, Jane; sisters, Olga (John) Haub of Portland, Oregon, Nadia (John) Spring of Oregon City, Oregon and Jeannie (Paul) Kuzmin-Walling of Portland, Oregon and two nieces, Tayne Hart of St. Helens, Oregon and Katya Haub of Chandler, Arizona.

i grew up on bildahl st 1 block from mike.many times mike,percy,walter and i would go drag racing on southside in my car..mike had great respect for his family .he addressed my parents as mr.and mrs and was a good example for his friends as he would LEAD by example...during the culture of the 60's he told me in a serious tone,You dont want to do this stuff as it cant in any way be good for you...he said,JUST SAY NO MIKE..that stuck with me thru my life...now we teach our kids that..he was the benchmark for mankind. he was a great friend..i am so sorry Jane for your loss..GOD BLESS YOU and his family..

I did not know Michael personally however I was Jean's roommate at NIU and I remember how proud Jean always was of her brother and the incredible depth of her love for him. I also remember how much we talked about Mike's corvette! Jean, I know the pain you are in right now. I saw Mike's obituary when I was looking for my sister's obituary who was the same age as Mike and also died of the virus in Belvidere . . . I am so sorry for your loss and will pray that the memories of our siblings will lessen our heartache . . . Cathy Callahan Ross
