Raymond Hemby Obituary
Raymond Lee Hemby, 84, of Rockford departed this earthly life, Saturday, July 29, 2017, in his home. He was born August 30, 1932, in Greenville, NC; the son of Maybelle Randolph. Raymond lived in Rockford 54 years, coming from Chicago, IL. He married the former Barbara Crutcher September 28, 1963, in Chicago; she preceded him in death. He was employed as a machinist by Quaker Oats over 20 years, after their closing he became a security guard at Sundstand 10 years before retiring. Raymond was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the Korean War. He was a member of Providence Baptist Church serving as a Usher. Raymond was a member of Rockford Sportsman Golf Association. He graduated from CM Epps High School, Class of 1951. Raymond leaves to cherish many loving memories, two sons, Anthony (Mary) Hemby and Neverro Hemby; four grandchildren; sister, Alice Short; and brother, Clifton (Shirley) Hill; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his wife and brother, Charles Hainey.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, August 4, 2017, at Providence Baptist Church, 2209 Clifton Avenue. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until the time of service. Arrangements completed by Carl E. Ponds Funeral Home, 2429 W. State Street.

To the Hemby family. Sorry for the loss of your loved one. I met Mr. Hemby at Providence Church, and I also sang in the choir with his loving wife Barbara. She would always have positive things to say when I was at choir rehearsal on Thursday night. Rest in Peace Mr. Hemby. gone but not forgotten.

To the Hemby family.
I'm so sorry to hear of the passing of your father. We worked together in security for Securitas. After work on Saturday mornings 4 of us would go out for breakfast. He always said " I have a host of friends"
He was a very nice guy, He will be missed. Praying the lord gives you comfort and peace.

To the Hemby family:
I met Raymond and Barb at the great Providence Missionary Baptist Church some years ago and they were both fun to be around. Raymond and I ushered together for many years, he was always rather laid back but also very candid. I'm going to miss him but I think he was tired and missing Barb a lot because she kept him straight! Now the two of them can rest in peace together! Raymond, you were definitely an original, sweet rest!
