What a wonderful opportunity, so heart warming to read all of the loving and touching sentiments from eight years ago! He was so loved then and still is... for his fun loving, gentle and kind nature. He will always be close in my heart and thoughts as I remember this special man, my Uncle. Praying Karen and Michael are at peace knowing he is looking down upon them with loving and caring eyes,as only a father can.

The older we get, the more life events we have; both good and bad. We welcome new lives, some whom we have created, into this world and watch them grow. We also lose many that we loved and will always love. New memories are acquired everyday and although some fade, others remain bright and shine forever. The memories we have of those we loved and lost are the memories that continue to shine bright and because of that, those loves stay with us forever until we, ourselves, hopefully, become a cherished memory.

I have lost my father and he remains with me every day. I have lost my Grandpa and Grandma Miller as well as my Grandma and Grandpa Burger. All four loved me and enriched my life. I have lost my beloved Uncle Ron who was one of the funniest men I ever knew and he brought laughter into my life whenever I was with him.

And recently, I have lost my Uncle Dick; a kind man with an artist's heart. It has been years since I saw him last but to this day whenever I see a skillfully drawn sketch, I can't help but think of him. I will continue to see sketches for the remainder of my life and I will continue to think of my Uncle Dick fondly until my time comes.

I have been blessed with a wife, two daughters, parents, a sister, grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins whom I love dearly. Those that are still with me give me new cherished memories every day. Those that have passed have shaped my life for the better and I cherish and thank them for that.

Karen and Michael, your dad will be greatly missed because he was so greatly loved, but he will make Heaven an even more beautiful place. And I am certain we will all see more artwork in the clouds. That should make us smile.

I will always remember how Uncle Dick could draw anything we wanted him to. I enjoyed his stories about the farm, and how he always loved to take everyone out for ice cream. We tried to eat a Colonial Kitchen Sink once, but whether we finished it or not is a little fuzzy. He had a kindness about him that was comforting, and he will surely be missed!

Dear Karen & Michael...
I want to send you my heartfelt sympathies to you and your family regarding your sweet father, my Uncle Dick. I smile as I think back on the Saturday's we planned with him to pick Carrie, Kathy, Carl & myself up in his Dodge Dart :) and take us to the zoo, a nature center, or to a park to just walk and look at the beautiful things that this world has to offer us. Then of course, out for icecream! We couldn't have special orderd a more perfect uncle! He had the sweetest, happiest most gentle soul I've ever know in anyone! And SO much talent to boot! To this day, I can only draw stick people & back then, bless his heart, he looked at my "stick person" and just gave me that squinty eyed sweet smile and told me to "keep practicing, don't give up". I'm happy my kids got to know him but saddened there were so many miles between us. They do remember he's my Uncle Dick who helped them try to create a crazy looking little hockey guy for their jerseys.
I will miss him so much but will carry the love and sweetness he had for all around him forever in my heart!

The morning I was born, Richard woke up from a dream in which he was pregnant. Over the last 31 years I have shared similar moments with him, where despite our physical distance, we were connected.
Grandpa, I still feel connected to you and that makes me feel very lucky. I love you very much.

My father, Richard Wurl, was an incredible positive influence upon my life as well as my sister Karen. Beside being a wonderful father to his children, he was a devoted husband to my mother and an all-around sweet and lovely human being, well loved by all who knew him. His passion for art, poetry, and literature, among other things, inspired both of his children to pursue creative writing and artistic career paths, and he was enjoyed by all he came in contact with. He had a warm spot in his heart for friends and children, many who would gather around him at every opportunity and watch him in awe and wonder as he took a simple pencil and paper and would skillfully create amazing drawings in a matter of seconds, with just a few well-placed lines upon the page. His own passion for drawing led him to enroll in the well known Famous Artists Course in the early 60's, where he refined his natural gift and eventually graduated. While the opportunity to pursue his passion for art never materialized into the illustrious artistic career that many knew he was capable of achieving, he nevertheless continued in his craft up until the end of his life. Most, if not all, of what I learned in my own childhood and beyond regarding art, comics, and creativity was spawned from his keen knowledge and acquired wisdom, and any gifts in art that I may possess I owe chiefly to his loving inspiration and direction. Though he never became famous in the eyes of the world, in the eyes of us who knew him, he was a great man, witty, funny, talented and loving, and our lives are deeply sorrowful at the void that his passing creates, yet we remain wonderfully thankful at having him in our lives for as long as we did, and grateful for every moment of joy and sadness that helped make our lives all the richer for having known him. He will be greatly missed.
