Ruby Chasm

RUBY G. CHASM, 87 OREGON - Ruby G. Chasm, 87, a lifelong Oregon resident, died Thursday, Nov. 18, 2010, in Serenity Home of Ogle County Hospice. Born Jan. 1, 1923, in Oregon, the daughter of Floyd and Esther (Hinkle) Reynolds. Married Horace G. Chasm on March 19, 1945, in San Diego; he died Jan. 8, 2000. Graduate of Oregon High School and member of First Presbyterian Church of Oregon and Oregon VFW Ladies' Auxiliary. Employed in the Ogle County recorder's office for 19 years, retiring in 1981. She was involved with her husband with the Ogle County Fair for many years and was an avid Chicago Cubs and Bulls fan. Ruby's grandchildren and great-grandchildren were a very important part of her life. Survived by sons, Gerald (Sandra) Chasm of Oregon and Thomas Chasm of St. Petersburg, Fla.; daughters, Sally Chasm of Orlando, Fla., and Jane Early of St. Petersburg; grandchildren, Barb (Ed) Egli, Scott (Sherry) Chasm, Justin Early and Jessica Early; 11 great-grandchildren; brother, Gerald (Geraldine) Reynolds of Paw Paw; and sister, Mildred Benesh of Gainesville, Fla. Predeceased also by parents; two brothers; and two sisters. Service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 21, in Farrell-Holland-Gale Funeral Home, 110 S. Seventh St., with visitation from 1 p.m. to time of service. Pastor Gary R. Turner of New Life Bible Church, Winnebago, will officiate. Burial in Grand Detour Cemetery.
