Winfred Barnes Obituary
Winfred H. "Brother" Barnes, 88, longtime Byron resident, died Tuesday April 4, 2017, in MorningStar Village, Rockford. He was born Dec. 22, 1928, in Taylorsville, North Carolina; the son of Otto and Lena (Jolly) Barnes. He married Betty L. Newhausen in Oregon, IL on June 17, 1949. Winfred was a retired machinist from Ingersall Milling Machine in Rockford, where he was known as "Barney". He was a member of the Mt. Morris Moose Club, was a Cubs fan, and enjoyed bowling, golfing, and fishing. Survivors include his wife, Betty; sons, Thomas (Nova Wise) Barnes and Jerry (Bridget) Barnes, both of Rockford; grandchildren, Mike Barnes, Nic Barnes, and Sydney Barnes; and 2 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Rita Belle Parsley; and grandson, John. Special thanks is extended by the family to Teresa Brent and everyone at Heartland Hospice and also everyone at Morning Star Village for their care and compassion toward Winfred and his family.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 8, 2017, at Farrell-Holland-Gale Funeral Home, 506 W. Merchant St., Byron, with Pastor Randy Snider officiating. Visitation will be prior to the service from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Burial will be in Byron Cemetery. farrellhollandgale.com
