Father Jose Flavio Santillanes passed away peacefully on Friday, March 6, 2015 with his loving family at his side. He went to join his Lord during the Lenten season just about two weeks shy of celebrating his 75 birthday. He was born in Lemitar, NM on March 21, 1940 to Manuel Lucario and Genoveva Andrea (Garcia) Santillanes. He proudly served in the United States Army and retired as a Lt. Colonel Chaplain after over 30 years of distinguished service. Flavio led a very robust, devoted, loving and giving life. He faithfully served the Lord and served many different Catholic communities in New Mexico as Parish Priest. Flavio's devotion to his Lord, his faith, family, friends, ministry and service was resilient. He loved to travel, dance, watch movies with his sister, and listen to Spanish music. He had a great sense of humor and you never saw Father Flavio without a welcoming smile on his face. He genuinely loved people. Flavio enjoyed and grinned with joy from ear to ear over his pineapple upside cake and maple syrup and peanut butter pancakes. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, and his baby sister, Josephine. Father Flavio is survived by his loving sister, Helen Barber and husband, Richard; his nieces, Tina Marie Barber; Lisa Anne Barber; and Cynthia Louise Arizmendi; his nephew, Richard Manuel Barber; his devoted cousin, Albert Garcia; and many other loving family members, friends, and brothers and sisters in Faith. Flavio enjoyed his great nieces and nephews, Michael; Patricia; Matthew; Natalie; Genevieve; Feliciano; Josephina; and Antonio. A Reception of the body will be held on Tuesday, March 10, 2015 at La Sagrada Familia Church in Lemitar from 1:00pm until 6:00pmfollowed by the Vigil with the Holy Rosary being recited at 7:00pm at the San Miguel Catholic Church,403 El Camino Real, Socorro. The Mass of Christian Burial and Resurrection will be celebrated on Wednesday, March 11, 2015 at 10:00 am at the Capilla La Todos Angeles - San Miguel Catholic Church Parish Hall. Interment will be held in theLemitar Cemetery. Pallbearers are Albert Garcia, Jerry Griego, Ricky Griego, Matthew Barber, Michael Barber, and Feliciano Yanez. Honorary pallbearers are Antonio Yanez, Jimmy Leal, Larry Ulibarri, Patricia Barber, Natalie Arizmendi, Genevieve Arizmendi, and Josephina Yanez. Padre Flavio, I will always remember your smile and sense of humor. I can hear your jovial voice saying "alright, alright..." I served with you in Turkey and became a priest. I will miss our yearly visit to see you. This November will be a sad trip for me. I still have the last joke you emailed me. Your love of God and His people made you a true pastor to all you came in contact with. I will miss you my dear brother in Christ. May you rest with angels dear Flavio.

Fr. Santillanes was such a great inspiration to the people of Cristo Rey Parish, and when he left us many people cried for him. Many people lost contact with him, no one seemed to know where he had gone. We will always remember him as a very dear priest in our hearts, just like Mgr. Patrick Smith. As an altar boy I had the pleasure of serving for him always. May the family have a wonderful memory of him.
