Dear Bruce, Kelly and Rachel:

I am writing from India, as we're helping out a church here for 3 months. I was so sad to hear from my sister of Aaron's illness and then his passing. I was very fond of him back in his primary days and was proud to be his teacher. May God be with you as you adjust to life without him. My prayers are with you all.

Dear Bruce, Kelly and Rachel: I too, like many, have tried to think of words or re-written this blog so many many times.. and words have never really come that hard to me before, this is rather new for me. I would like to express my most sincerest sympathy at your time of the most deepest sorrow a family can go through, the loss of a child. I cannot even profess to know the pain you all must feel. All I have is my love to give and arms to hug for some odd reason it doesn't feel enough. You all did such a fine job in raising this young man. He had so much character, loyalty, devotion, empathy, caring, brave, kindnes, sense of humor, charming, intelligence, a huge sense of taking something on and fulfilling a duty to the very end, and excelling at it. He, in essence, was a perfectionist.

Please take comfort in knowing he is loved, that he is in a better place where there is no pain or sickness.

You all should be proud of him and his accomplishments. And how many lives this young man touched. How remarkable..

You all are loved, and if you should ever need anything, Scott and I are only a phone call away. Whenever, wherever always...

With all of our love and blessings,
Scott, Paula Piper KJ and Jacob Austin XXOOOXXOOOXXXOOO

Benji, I'm going to miss you so much! I know we were sorta distant, but I still thought of you often. I remember going up to the gathering up to Polly's and you were always the first one to give me a hug as I walked through the door. I am going to miss you deeply. I wish we could have spent more time together. You are always in my heart. I love you!

Dear Benji,
I have started and re-started this so many times, that I think that I just have to blurt it all out- from when you were born, to toddlerhood, to boyhood to teens, you touched so many lives with your kind heart. You seemed to have no fear- no piece of equipment or tractor or go-cart or 4-wheeler or snowmobile was too big for you- you would conquer any of them at any age! I'm sure that right now you are running some piece of equipment up there in heaven- plowing or digging to your hearts content. We will all miss you very much, Aaron. Love, Aunt Annette
Bruce, Kelly and Rache-
I cannot say that I understand what you are going thru right now- I can only say that I am so sorry for your loss and hope that you can take comfort in knowing that people love you and care about you and will do anything if it will help to lessen the pain. You know that I am here if you need anything- I love you all.

Bruce, Kelly & Rachel-
We don't really know where to begin. We are so very sorry that you guys have to be going through this. I can't even imagin the pain that you are all going through. We'll never forget Aaron he was a great kid. Everytime that we think of Aaron we think of a kid that was passionate about being a firefighter. Whenever we think about a fireman we will think of Aaron. Take comfort that Aaron is in a safe place where he can't not feel pain anymore. Where he will be watching of you and with you every day. We are here for you if there is anything that you need.

I didn't know Aaron well (I did met you Kelly at a candle party at my house). My husband was also on the fire dept. with Aaron and he was very shook up when he passed. I cannot imagine what you are going through losing a child but I can relate to Rachel. I read your post to your little brother. I also lost my little brother when he was 22. When you talked about the silence I knew how you felt. I missed our talks the most. All I can say is that it gets easier with time, but always keep the memories for some day they will make you smile and proud to know that you had such a wonderful brother.
My thoughts and prayers are with you all during this tough time.
God bless,
Angela Markwell

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

Bruce, Kelly and Rachel,
I am so sorry to hear about Aaron. When I first saw the obit. I didn't make the connection as I alway remember him as Ben. He was so cute as the little guy that I remember when Jeannie was babysitting for Ashley. Hard to believe that he could possibly be 17. Time goes by too quickly. My thoughts are with you and your family.

Dear Douglas family, It is with great sadness that I write these condolences to you. I remember Aaron fondly, as a little boy in first and second grade at CAES. He always had a big smile on his face. I also remember you all as a very caring family that shared a lot of love for each other. Please accept my deepest sympathy in this time of tremendous loss for you. May the grace of God be with you and comfort you. I will hold you in my prayers. With love.

To my Lil bro i will miss so much

OK it has taking me a long time to think of what i want to say there is so many things i got going on in my head but here we go. I remember when mom and dad brought u home from the hospital and i took one look at u and said i don't want him take him back but they said no he is ours and so i soon move on and then loved having u around. we played in the sand box and would fight like hell but i think we did that to push mom and dad's buttons. i will all aways remember the times u and i would sit up late at night and talk and sit there watching TV i would always look over at u and jest stare and think how happy i was to have a little bro also when we played cards late at night and mom and dad would ask what time we went to bed and we would say we don't know we cause were having fun playing cards and you were telling me about school.i will also remember what u had said when i talked about having kids and i one day picked out this cute Lil outfit u looked at me and said (my Lil nephew will not be dressed in that cause it is to preppy he need to be put in carhartt clothes and be a redneck like me and dad) i said OK whatever u say cause i always listened to u and i will still do that but it is funny to tell people about it. It has been very hard not having u around but i am trying to do it. I pass by your room waiting to hear u say Rachel come here and watch TV with me or get me some water but all i hear is nothing i also lay awake trying to hear your TV but then i remember that u are no longer hear and then i feel all alone aging. Bro u don't know how much u meant to me and how i will miss u but i will love u and will never forget u.
love your sis Rachel

Aaron touched so many lives in his 17 years. I first met him as a little 4 year old boy who even then, brought smiles to so many faces. Watching the young man he became was an honor, he was so special and truly a wonderful person. I will miss you Aaron. Bruce, Kelly and Rachel, may you find comfort in knowing that Aaron will live on in our memories and that in his short life he impacted so many with his kindness, smiles and dedication to helping others.

What I remember best about Aaron is how much he cared about his family. Aaron always talked to me about how much he loved his Mom, Dad and sister.
He told me he really just wanted to be like his Dad.
I remember when Aaron was in my class and Rachael was going to join the class. I asked Aaron if it might be a problem . He said " Of course not, she's my sister."
I'm going to miss Aaron but he'll always stay in my heart.

I was sitting here thinking,
trying to put into words our
feelings and sense of loss,
and of course the tears kept
making the ink run on the paper.
Trying to think if there was anything
we could do that would
in anyway make things
better and then it came to me,
that what it all boils down to me is:
thoughts are only thoughts
words only words
tears are only tears
gifts are only gifts
hugs only help a minute
they all mean something special
but what really means the most
is what's in our hearts
That's where we'll find Aaron
and every time we look he'll be smiling at us.

Love you kiddo,
Aunt Lisa & Uncle Darryl & the zoo crew
