Gregory Joseph Obituary

SUNAPEE, NH - Dr. Greg Joseph, 68, died on April 24, 2013 at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH.

Greg was born in Cambridge, MA on October 31, 1944, the eldest son of Dr. Alfred T. Joseph and Marion A. Joseph. He grew up in Lexington, MA and graduated from Lawrence Academy in Groton, MA, in 1963. As a member of Phi Delta Theta, he graduated from University of Vermont in 1967. He received his dental degree from Tufts School of Dental Medicine in Boston, MA, in 1974 after a year of graduate school at Harvard University.

Greg practiced general dentistry for 30 years in Rutland, VT. He belonged to the Grace Congregational Church in Rutland. Greg vacationed at Squam Lake in NH with his lifelong friends from the Junior Squam Lakes Association. He was a camper and counselor at Camp Wonalancet in NH and continued his love of the outdoors as an avid downhill skier, waterskier and golfer.

He was a member at Rutland Country Club and Proctor/Pittsford Country Club for many years. He was passionate about fishing, hunting, antique collecting and gardening.

Greg married Diane Bean Joseph in 1975 in Topsfield, MA. They lived in Pittsford and Chittenden, VT for 35 years before moving to Sunapee, NH in 2011. After Greg became seriously ill in 2004, he beat the odds and returned to dentistry in pediatrics for 3 years in Claremont, NH. His interest in boating peaked again on Lake Sunapee.

Greg is survived by his devoted wife, Diane; 2 daughters, Kari McCafferty and son-in-law, Jason of Braintree, MA, and Melissa Arbour and son-in-law, Jordan of Milton, MA; his brother, Dr. Douglas Joseph of Nashua, NH; his sister, Barbara McCleary of Ellington, CT; grandsons, Tyler and Hunter; many cousins, nieces and nephews.

There will be no calling hours or burial. A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 17, 2013 at noon at the Lake Sunapee United Methodist Church in Sunapee, NH. Following the service, a Celebration of Life reception will be held at Mount Sunapee Resort in Newbury, NH.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Jimmy Fund (official charity of the Boston Red Sox) www.jimmyfund.org 1-800-52-JIMMY.

He will be greatly missed.

Mrs. Joseph,
I had a terrible dental emergency one night. This happened to be your honeymoon. Dr. Joseph and you, new to our community, came to the office and helped and alleviated my emergency. On your honeymoon!
He lived his life like that. How blessed all of us were to have Dr. Joseph in our life.
Blessings to your family.
