Kathryn Sutherland Obituary

WOODSTOCK - Kathryn "Kay" Sutherland, 95, died Sept. 3, 2011, at the Mertens House in Woodstock.

She was born April 9, 1916, in Barre, the daughter of Karl Russell and Nellie (Babcock) Sawyer.

Following high school, she married L.D. Sutherland Sr. on Sept. 18, 1937.

Mrs. Sutherland spent most of her life cooking in the area, working many years at Woodstock Union High School, for Bunny Bertram at Suicide Six and later at Woodstock Country Club.

She volunteered for the Woodstock Chamber of Commerce at the information booth on the green and for the Edwin Thompson Senior Center.

She enjoyed cooking, working on crafts and deer hunting.

Survivors include two sons, L.D. Sutherland Jr. of Woodstock and Dennis Sutherland of Bailey, Colo., six grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Sutherland was predeceased by her husband; a daughter, Caroline Paluch; a granddaughter; and a brother, Russell Sawyer.

The memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 14, at the Cabot Funeral Home in Woodstock. The Rev. Beverly Anderson will officiate.

Burial will be at a later date in Silver Lake Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Sustainable Woodstock Flood Relief Fund, PO Box 611, Woodstock, VT 05091.

kay was a very important part of my life we had alot of good laughs and i really enjoyed Butch and his wife..im thinking of kays family and good memories from laurie
