In 2009 Gwen moved to New Bern, NC, and remained active in her community until the time of her death, playing the piano at the Senior Center, walking the mall and making numerous friends and acquaintances. She will be missed by many.

Surviving family members include one daughter, Sandy Hickman and her husband David of New Bern; one son, Stephen Chioffi of Rutland; as well as numerous cousins.

Funeral Services will be held Monday August 11 at St. Peters Catholic Church in Rutland at 11 am. Officiating will be the Rev. Thomas Houle. Visiting hours will be held Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at Clifford Funeral Home in Rutland.

Gwen will be fondly remembered by all who ever came into the office as being helpful and friendly. To say nothing of the way she handled her many duties for the considerable variety of people who worked out the Rutland office

To Mary's Family,

I am sorry for your loss. I met Mary at the George Street Senior where she played the piano for a sing-along. We chatted on occasion and I learned she knew one of my neighbors.
Mary was a delightful lady and I am glad I met her. I know she will be missed.

My condolences.

Gwen was the first person I met when I interviewed for summer job with Vermont State Parks back in 1973. She was so welcoming and personable, - always! I still have her pumpkin chocolate chip bread recipe and think of her every time I make it.
