Mildred Haseltine Obituary

GRAFTON - Mildred J. "Millie" Haseltine, 85, died December, 13, 2014, at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center with her family by her side.

She was born July 27, 1929, in Center Rutland, the daughter of Arvid and Anna Johnson and the youngest of ten children.

She graduated from Rutland High School in 1947. She graduated from the Mary Hitchcock School of Radiologic Technology in 1952.

She married Robert Haseltine August 9, 1958, in Proctor, Vermont, and they were married for 56 years.

Her career as an X-ray technician spanned over 30 years. During that time she was employed by the Ellsworth Memorial Clinic, Mountain Valley Medical Clinic, and Springfield Hospital.

She was civic-minded and spent much of her life active in the Grafton community. She was the first female to serve on the Grafton School Board. She also served on the Library Board, the Womens Community Club, and was a member of the Grafton Improvement Association.

She was a formative member of a Bereavement Group that began in Grafton after her son passed in 2001. The circle of six women had experienced sudden loss of children, mothers and spouses, and intended to meet weekly for six weeks. Those weekly gatherings lasted for four years.

Millie was a longtime member of the Grafton Church, she served on the Church Council and was involved in the committee to raise funds to provide access for the handicapped to the church.

Survivors include her husband, Robert Haseltine of Grafton; her son, Kevin and wife Megan and grandson Jenner of Grafton; daughter, Ann Tarmey and granddaughters Signe and Olivia of Charlestown, NH; son, Matthew and wife MaryEllen and grandchildren, Kathleen, Robert and Benjamin of Chester; grandsons of the late David Haseltine, Kyle of Skowhegan, ME, and Ethan of Grafton; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents and her oldest son, David, in 2001 and brothers, Harry, Robert, Harold, Bertle, Leonard and sisters Selma J. Buehl, Myrtle L. Balmos, Pauline M. Olson, and Signe L. Johnson.

Millie's parents immigrated to the United States from Sweden and married in 1909, she was very proud of her Swedish heritage.

Millie was an avid reader. She loved living on Hall Brook Farm and was always appreciative and grateful of the natural beauty that surrounded her. She was the matriarch of the family and loved family cookouts.

A celebration of her life will be held Jan 3, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at the Grafton Church. A private burial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Grafton Church Restoration Fund, PO Box 158, Grafton, VT 05146.

Bob and family - I worked with Millie for a number of years at the Ellsworth Clinic, and Millie was always such a joy to work with. I remember the Christmas parties at the Ellsworth house and how much fun she made them. She will be missed by many people. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
