I was thinking of Dean Hammond this morning and went online to google his name. His obituary appeared and I was filled with such sadness as I allowed so much time to pass. I wish I had known of his passing to pay my respects. I respected this man so much. I was a Resident Hall Director for two years at CU and I turned to him for guidance both professionally and personally. It was the personal advice that meant so much. He was a mentor and friend. It was nice to see him around Middlebury when he was the AD at our high school. We'd catch up and give each other a hug. He was a great man and I'm honored to have known him.

Dean Hammond was a mentor to me (and many others) during our time at Castleton University. As a resident assistant (RA) and dorm director....Dean Hammond was always there with a calm response (no matter what the crisis) followed by an encouraging word. He was ALWAYS there as our Dean of Student affairs and will hold a place in our hearts forever. God Bless his family and friends during this difficult time.

I am always saddened by the death of a good person. It is from this sadness, however, that a feeling of gratitude emerges. Dick dedicated a good part of his adult life to the field of education and was very respected in that work. My condolences to Sandi and Brad and all of Dick's immediate and extended family.
