Robert Parker Sr. Obituary

PITTSFORD - Robert Edward Parker Sr., 84, of Pittsford, died peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Oct. 11, 2014. He was born May 3, 1930, in Pittsford, the son of Frederick G. and Jennie J. (Turner) Parker.

Bob grew up in Pittsford on the family farm. He attended the local one-room schoolhouse, the Hudson School, for his early education and graduated from Barstow High School in 1948, where he was a member of the basketball and baseball teams.

He married his high school sweetheart, Dorothea J. Breed, on June 6, 1953. They celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary this year.

Bob was employed on the family farm, the Town of Pittsford Highway Department, Vermont Marble Co., Giddings Manufacturing and retired from General Electric. He was an avid sportsman, enjoying hunting and fishing. He was a lifelong Red Sox fan and was delighted with their World Series wins.

Bob was a 57-year member of the Pittsford Volunteer Fire Dept. and the Nickwackett Hose Co. and held many offices in those associations. He especially enjoyed selling tickets for the past 33 years at the annual Haunted House.

Bob is survived by his wife, Dorothea J. (Breed) Parker of Pittsford; by his five children and their spouses: Patricia Parker Carter of Pittsford, Marie Parker of Kula, Maui, HI, Robert Parker Jr. and his wife Gerri of Proctor, David Parker and his wife Michele of North Chittenden, and Catherine Parker Winter and her husband Bruce of Saco, ME. He is survived by his sister Anne Nan Booth and her husband Henry of Pittsford, by his five grandchildren; Amy Parker Manfredi and her husband Christopher, Erin Carter, Samuel Parker, Ashley Carter, Jason Beatty, and by his great-granddaughter Rozzlynn Manfredi. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Phyllis Breed and his brother-in-law Albert Beriau; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews and by his faithful cat, Eddie.

He was predeceased by his parents and by his siblings: Frederick Parker Jr., Mary Parker Beriau, Francis Parker, Margaret Parker Beriau and Raymond Bud Parker.

Family and friends may call on Thursday, October 16, 2014, from 5-8 p.m. at the Barnard Funeral Home in Pittsford.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, October 17, 2014, at 11 a.m. at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Pittsford. Burial will be in St. Alphonsus Cemetery, immediately followed by a reception at the Pittsford Volunteer Fire Department for refreshments and a time to share memories of Bob.

The family suggests in lieu of flowers for anyone who wishes memorial contributions in Bob's memory may be made to the Nickwackett Hose Company, Pittsford Fire Dept., PO Box 559, Pittsford, VT 05763.
