Roger Shattuck Obituary

Roger J. Shattuck, 67, of Wells, Vermont, passed away Friday, May 20, 2016, at his home after a difficult battle with cancer.
He was born May 29, 1948, in Bennington, Vermont, the son of Almon and Alice (Moffit) Shattuck. In 1969 he married Maggie (Taylor) Shattuck and together they had four children.
Roger was known for being a hard worker and for always being there for a friend who needed a hand. Roger loved to hunt and fish, especially with his grandsons by his side.
Roger is survived by his wife Carol (Combs) Shattuck whom he married in 2004; his mother Alice Shattuck; his daughters Valerie Baker, Cheryl Reed and husband Tim, Regina Straw and husband Kevin, and a stepdaughter, Stephanie Crossman and husband Brian; a brother, David Shattuck and wife Ricky; four grandsons, James Park, Scott Park, John Combs and Michael Arnado; seven granddaughters, Allison Arnado, Harley Combs, Jasmynn Straw, Andrea Noble, Halee Reed, Paisley Mattison and Jeanna Zernhel; two great-grandsons, Logan and Lucas Martelle; nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his father Almon, a daughter Vicky, a sister Betty Haskins Poulin and a granddaughter Megan Baker Martelle.
Calling hours will be held at Robert M. King Funeral Home, 23 Church Street, Granville, NY on Tuesday, May 24, 2016, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friends and family are invited to a Celebration of Life and potluck on Wednesday, May 25, 2016, at the Modern Woodmen of America – Annex Building, 133 VT Route 30, Wells, VT at 5 p.m.

A lot of memories from knowing Roger. First, my husband, Jeff and I bought property off of Roger. We are lucky enough to live close by and often saw him either mowing our field or down at the barn. Roger being Jeff's uncle, was a true father-figure. Roger and Jeff traveled on many hunting trips and have many good and definitely funny memories. We will miss him so much. RIP Uncle Rog - we love ya!

When I moved to the area as a "new vet", I didn't know Roger as well as many people, but I quickly learned that Roger was a legend in his community. I heard many Vermont farmers tell Roger Shattuck stories over the years. He was known for his sense of humor. It seemed he had worked with so many people doing so many things. He leaves a wonderful family as a legacy, and I am so sorry for their loss. Please accept my condolences.
