Folsom, California - Born on March 1, 1936, in San Francisco, California, Barbara Virginia Thomas (then Kells) passed away on July 11, 2022. Barbara grew up in San Francisco, California, where she graduated from Star of the Sea Catholic Academy in 1954. Barbara married Gomer ("Bud") Thomas in Carmel, California in 1956. Barbara and Bud had four children together in the San Francisco Bay Area before they moved to Fair Oaks, California in 1978, and Folsom, California in 1989. Barbara focused her energies on raising their family as a devoted and dedicated mother, grandmother, and Wife.
Whether as a friend, sister, mother, or "Grandma Barbara", throughout her life, Barbara was always known for her generosity, kindness, supportiveness, and great love for all who knew her. She took particular pride in nurturing warm, close, and loving relationships with family and friends. Barbara also had a wonderful sense of humor and joyful nature, finding wonder in life's simplest pleasures. Her grandchildren loved visits as she made joyous adventures out of everyday activities. In life's more difficult times, Barbara was always there for her family and friends with loving support and encouragement for a brighter future. Barbara's kind and generous spirit extended to charities, including The Mercy Foundation.
Barbara enjoyed visiting her vacation home in Lake Tahoe as well as her childhood home, San Francisco, California, and her beloved Carmel, California. Her many adventures took her to France, Italy, Spain, Canada, Mexico, and the Caribbean. Always proud of her Irish heritage, she realized one of her dreams by visiting Ireland in 2019 with two of her grandchildren.
Along with her four children, Barbara had nine grandchildren, all of whom adored her. Barbara's daughter Dana Thomas passed away in 2015. Barbara is survived by her other children, Cori Cudney, Robert Thomas, and Gregory Thomas, and her nine grandchildren, Meagan Diggle, Kelly Ward, Stephen Thomas, Cody Ward, Chelsea Thomas, Ryan Thomas, Andrew Diggle, Samantha Thomas, and Christopher Cudney, two great-grandsons, Rory Thomas and Peter Ward, her daughter-in-law Susan Thomas, son-in-law Mark Cudney, granddaughters-in-law; Alice Ward, Ashley Thomas, Maggie Ward, Alexa Thomas, Sydney Meyer, and Kelly Luetkehans, her sisters; Ginger Vince and Mary Witt, and her fiercely loyal canine companion, Pablo.
