I just yesterday learned of Ben's death, and I am both shocked and extremely saddened. He was a wonderful man and a very important person in my life. We lost touch in 2005 when I moved out of the country, and I was hoping to be back in touch again when I returned to Sacramento recently. I don't know if anyone will read this since so many years have passed, but if so, I send my deepest condolences to Ben's family and friends. As was the tradition for Dia de Los Muertos in Mexico where I most recently lived, I am preparing an altar today in his memory.

I met Ben on the dance floor in Alameda dancing Zydeco (he was an awesome dance partner). Over time I developed a friendship with him and he proved to be a most wonderful friend. He drove to Modesto once to talk to me about a crisis I was having at work. He met my dad and was a comfort to me when he died. When my granddaughter was very sick and mediflighted to Sacramento, he met us at the hospital to see if he could help. I can't say enough about how precious he was to me. I will miss him....Go with God, dear friend.

Ben was a special person who touched my life in many ways. I met him 25 years ago as a young ER nurse at Sutter Solano Hospital. Ben was our leader...not only was he the Medical Director but he became our "Head of Family". As a group we were all very close,an ER family. we were together for over 10 years, our strong bond has maintained in a supportive and nurturing manner. Over the years we had countless celebratory events, birthdays, promotions. baby showers, good bye parties, apecial get togethers at each others homes and the most delightful Bar B Ques and 10 years of Sunday Potlucks in the ER. Nurses and Docs from all the other services would wander through for a tasty treat. Ben would always bring a baked delicacy in a pink bakery box and proclaim he had backed it himself...we always chuckled and said "sure you did" years later at a dinner in El Macero with Ben and Stephanie, she told me that

Ben had in fact baked all the goodies himself and kept a supply of Bakery boxes for just such special occasions. Stephanie confessed that Bens feelings had been hurt that we never believed he had baked for us himself...to rectify that, the old Sutter crew had a grand get together at Chevys to apologize and Thank Ben for the outstanding pastries and the love that went in to them!

Ben has touched my life forever. He was my loyal friend, my teacher, my mentor. He gave me inspiration and drive to become a better person.

Years ago I developed a critical illness, was hospitalized and I would awaken from time to time and Ben would be sitting at the foot of my Bed of next to me in a chair, not saying a word, just keeping me safe.

Ben, you will always be in my heart, You are dearly loved, my friend, and I will try to pass on the lessons I learned from you

Ben and I were friends starting in the 6th grade at Canfield Ave. School in LA. We use to bicycle places together. We were also stamp collectors at that time. We both continued in school together through Pasteur Jr. High, Hamilton High and UCLA. He was a very bright, talented person. I am so sorry to hear about his passing away. Martin Sherman
