Charles Hubbard Obituary

Charles Sherritt Hubbard

October 14, 1931 - November 1, 2024

Sacramento, California - Chuck passed peacefully at 93 comforted by Lynn, his wife of 43 years.

Chuck was born and raised in East Lansing Michigan where he attended St. Paul's Episcopal Church and served as an altar boy. Chuck graduated from East Lansing High School in 1949 and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology from Albion College in 1953 where he was a member of the Delta Tau Delta fraternity.

After college, Chuck started Graduate School at Michigan State, but soon enlisted in the Navy during the Korean War where he served on the USS Norfolk until his honorable discharge. Chuck moved to San Francisco to work for the Crocker Anglo Bank. Like his father, Chuck decided he wanted a career in law and received his degree from the University of California Hastings School of Law in San Francisco.

Moving to Sacramento in 1964, Chuck opened a general law practice serving clients throughout the region for many decades. Chuck was a Rotarian (Arden Arcade President '90-'91), a Shriner, and a Mason. He was a past member of the Sutter Club, the University Club, and Sutter Lawn Tennis Club. He volunteered at Loaves and Fishes and was an active member of the Sacramento Mental Health Association.

With his upbeat disposition, Chuck was known for his kindness and had the ability to connect with everyone he met. He loved talking to people and hearing their life stories. He was always quick with a joke or a harmless prank. When he and Lynn weren't playing Bridge, they enjoyed traveling to almost every state. Chuck treasured his several trips to Europe and Asia, and any time spent on the golf course. He spent countless hours at his summer homes at Torch Lake, MI, Tahoe Donner, and Santa Cruz.

Chuck is survived by his wife, Lynn Seawell Hubbard, Chuck's sons, Kenneth Hubbard (Richter Elser) and Bradley Hubbard (Katie), his stepdaughter, Melinda Andrew (Garrett), his grandchildren, McKenna, Delaney, Langston, and Kensington, and his nieces, Nancy Henry (Neal), and Mary Ives (Tom). Chuck was proceeded in death by his parents, Harry and Ruth Hubbard, his older sister, Helen Deliyanne (late Greg), his niece Patricia Minty, and his nephew, Peter Minty (Susan Steenwyk).

The family would like to thank his loyal caregivers of two years: Nola Wainiqolo, Tonga Luta, Ima Vunipola, and Stella Bloomfield.

The family is planning a private graveside burial at East Lawn Cemetery. A Celebration of Life honoring Chuck will be held at Del Paso County Club on January 3rd at 1 p.m. Remembrances can be sent to the Arden Arcade Rotary of Sacramento at: PO Box 214181, Sacramento, CA 95821.

Chuck was such a very special person! His warm welcoming presence was always visible, followed by a hug, a beautiful smile. He was always inclusive, nonjudgmental, gracious. Then would start the banter and much laughter! He also, when asked, would generously and kindly offer professional advice. I know we will all miss his shining light
