Charles Ryan Obituary

Born November 22, 1948 in Seattle, Washington to Lois June Tusler and Raymond John Ryan. He passed away unexpectedly at his home in El Dorado Hills, CA on February 11, 2016. Chuck's passion for learning never ended even after graduating from C.K. McClatchy High School in 1966. He continued on to Sacramento State, DePaul University where he obtained his BA in Art History and then on to Art Institute of Chicago where he received his Master's in Historic Preservation. He also served his country in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1971-1976. His library of world books guided him on many adventures to some of his favorite places such as Scotland, England, Ireland, Hong Kong, Singapore, China, Chicago, and most of all the Sierra Nevada's. He was an avid downhill skier and fisherman in his early years and was most at peace spending time with friends and family in the High Sierras. He is survived by his loving wife, Maggie Ryan, son Christopher Ryan (wife Lisa), daughters Kelly (Ryan) Celli (husband Matt) and Shannon (Ryan) Pavey (husband Kenny), and his sisters Linda (Ryan) Johnson and Pamela (Ryan) Zeigler of Washington. He is also survived by his five grandsons who loved him dearly: Jackson, Josh, & Flynn Ryan, Chase Celli, & Dylan Pavey. A funeral Mass will be held at St. John The Baptist Catholic Church, 307 Montrose Dr., Folsom, CA 95630 at 12 noon on Friday, March 18, 2016. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes to honor Chuck's two greatest passions: saving animals and preserving the outdoors. Memorial donations can be directed to: Best Friends Animal Society, 5001 Angel Canyon Rd., Kanab UT 84741 (attn: Jonna W.), or by phone: 435-644-2001 ext. 4873; or online: https://secure.bestfriends.org/page/contribute/memory OR to the Sierra Club http://sierraclub.org/.
