Carmichael, California - Christopher Delgado, 86 yrs. old, passed away in Carmichael on January 31, 2021 from Alzheimers disease. Chris was born in Fowler, CA in 1934, one of ten children born to Anna and John Delgado who had emigrated to the U.S. from Spain. Upon graduating from Washington H.S. he joined the Navy and served on the aircraft carrier, the Philippine Sea. Chris became a talented, self- taught architect, working in the private and public sectors. His talents led him to overseeing the design and construction of the Sacramento Convention Center Complex; the historical renovation of the Crocker Art Gallery; and establishing the A&E Dept at the UC Davis Medical Center. He was a respected member of A.I.A., Fellow of C.S.I., and an Emeritus member of the Association of University Architects.
As an artist and athlete, Chris was filled with a passion for running: marathons, ultra runs and especially proud of accomplishing the Western States 100 mile endurance run in 20.32 hrs. You would often find Chris in his later years, strolling through the neighborhood on the hottest days worshiping the sun and heat of the day.
Chris adored his family, having raised daughters Koren (Tim), Kim, Karri (Roger), & Kristine (Gary) with his wife Doris in Fresno, and later in Citrus Heights. Chris later married Cathy Guglielmoni who has one daughter, Valerie. Chris and Cathy spent many wonderful years celebrating family, fun trips, friendships and frolicking to his favorite tunes.
Chris is survived by his three remaining siblings, Vicki (Ted), Christine (Brent) and brother Frank. He will be fondly remembered by his grand children and great grand children, cousins, nieces and nephews. He will be missed, but most importantly, forever in our hearts. Visitation is Monday, Feb 15, 4 – 8 pm at Lind Brothers Funeral Home in Carmichael. He will be interred at the Sacramento Valley Veterans Cemetery.
