Danny TOMPKINS Obituary

TOMPKINS, Danny Ross
Danny was born in Sacramento on April 24, 1947, and was raised in Sacramento his entire life. He passed away peacefully at home in Elk Grove surrounded by family and friends He is survived by his beloved wife of 44 years, Gaylene, his daughter Gaylene and husband Steven Crouch, his adoring grandchildren, Cameron and Nicole, of all whom he loved immensely. He is also survived by his sister Genevieve Smith and husband Larry, brother Jim Jones and wife Beverly, many nieces, nephews, cousins, his brother-in-law Ricky Harr and wife Barbara as well as many lifelong dear, dear friends. He was preceded in death by his mother Marie, father Ross (Whitey) Tompkins and sister Ellen Anne Hoffman and her husband Charlie. Danny was stubborn, obstinate and opinionated but had a heart bigger than life itself and his loyalty could be counted on when he was needed. Next to family and friends the great love and passion of his life were motorcycles. Danny was a Navy Vet and served in Vietnam. He was retired from the City of Sacramento and was a 37 year plus member of Plumber & Pipefitters Local 447. We will all miss him and his off-beat practical jokes and odd sense of humor for the rest of our days. Danny wanted to be sure that all of you knew how much he valued your friendship and support through the years. Friends are welcome for visitation on Tuesday 7/20, from Noon until 5pm, at W.F. Gormley & Sons, 2015 Capitol Avenue. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday 7/21, at Noon at the East Lawn Memorial Park Chapel, 4300 Folsom Blvd. in Sacramento. Interment with honors will follow.

Dear Gaylene and family-
I was so sorry to hear about Danny. I remember when I was young and he would come and visit my dad; he always had a smile on his face and some wise crack or joke to tell. I'm sorry I was unable to come to the services, I would have liked to see you. I hope the memories of Danny help ease the pain of losing him. My dad always spoke highly of him and you. He will be missed by all. Love, Brigitte (Mel Standerfer's daughter)

What a character! And soooo handsome! Your funny birthday cards every year will be truly missed. I loved you like a brother and always got a kick out of your antics and stories. Looks like I'm not the only one that will remember you and your potato gun with a smile in my heart. Rest peacefully and God Bless to your beautiful and loving wife, daughter and family. We will miss you Danny.

To Gay and Little Gay: Danny was a great man and he is greatly missed. I can remember coming out to your place when I was kid and riding the pony, but staying as far away from Socks as you could because you didn't want to get bit. No matter how long between visits with him and dad.....it was like they had just seen each the day before. He was always there for dad, as dad was there for him. Though I can't be there in person, know that you are in my prayers. You know he's looking down on all of us saying he did his way to the end.

To Gaylene & Gaylene,
We are so very sorry for your sudden loss of Danny. We are also very blessed, though, for our life-long friendship with Danny and with your families. He was a great guy who was always there when you needed him, a loyal and dependable friend. And I can't think of anyone else who has or had his great love of jokes and pranks--- I think that Maycee only knew him as "Donald Duck" for years...:-) He will surely be missed by all of his family and friends.

Danny was one of the kindest people I have ever known. He never forgot a birthday or neglected to help a friend in need. When my grandfather passed he did everything he could to help my grandmother who had known him since he was in high school. I will never forget all the ways Danny helped my family and I will miss him terribly. I am so sorry to those who will miss him as well.

Danny I will always remember comeing over to your house when i was young. You always showed us the coolest stuff that only someone other than your parents would show you, for instance the patato gun! I was probally only 8 or 9 when i was introduced to this thing called a patato gun and it was the coolest thing ever as a child. Danny you and my father were very close and I loved it when he said he was going to your house, I would drop whatever i was doing and insist to go along. I loved seeing all you motorcycles and you. O i forgot about all the fireworks you always had like the ones your not supposed to have, going to fast fridays and your jokes. I will miss you dearly and you will always be in heart and never forgoten. I would also like to thank you so much for being there when my little boy James passed. I love you man.... Love JAMES D CLARKE Jr.
