David Sheehy Obituary

David Brian Sheehy

September 26, 1957 - September 9, 2024

Citrus Heights, California - David Brian "Dave" Sheehy of Citrus Heights, California, passed away unexpectedly September 9, 2024. Born September 26, 1957, to Elva Josephine Kerr Sheehy and Frank Edward Sheehy and raised in Bakersfield, California, Dave graduated from South High School in 1975 and subsequently earned a Master of Science degree in electrical and computer engineering at the University of California, Davis in 1981. He worked for the Hewlett-Packard Company for 30 years as both a hardware and software engineer in its Research and Development department, specializing in data storage and networking. Later, he continued his professional interests for five years at a Sacramento-area startup company, mostly creating software for groundbreaking high-performance server storage.

Dave had an insatiable intellect and endless curiosity about an impressive range of topics. His culinary interests often led him to challenging new recipes. He researched uncommon plants to grow in his garden. He was a member of a local aquarium society and for decades maintained a sizable saltwater aquarium. Fish, birds, and other animals always seemed to fascinate him; he was an avid fisherman and was devoted to his rescue cat Noonoo. He practiced various martial arts, including Kenpo Jiu-Jitsu and escrima. He enjoyed scuba diving, tennis, and swimming. He loved reading science fiction and fantasy novels. For thirty years, with a group of friends he shared season tickets to the Sacramento Kings basketball games. Music was one of his biggest interests; later in life, he returned to guitar playing, learned keyboard, and led a music club in his community. As one might imagine, his many interests led him to a wide range of friendships.

Dave is survived by his daughter Sara and son Liam, children of his former marriage to Laura Cook, and his two older brothers, Dean and Daniel Sheehy. He will be missed.

David and I grew up together in Bakersfield CA. We were good friends all the way up thu high school. Pretty much lost track of each other when he went away to college. He was very smart, and knew he work for HP. Glad he had a full life.

I sat next to Dave in the Curran band, then relinked with him at UC Davis. (I fed his fish when he went on vacation.) We group of college friends got together at my house for brunch in San Jose last year. We'll miss him.
