David Williams Obituary

David Williams

February 12, 1958 - September 28, 2023

Sacramento, California - David Williams passed away peacefully on Thursday September 28, 2023 in Sacramento, California. A loving and kind husband, father, grandfather, and brother, David was a Sacramento native and resident for most of his life. He attended local schools, graduating from Encina High School and California State University, Sacramento.

Born February 12th, 1958 to Robert and Carol Williams, David is survived by his beloved wife of 33 years, Martina Williams; his daughter Marilyn, sons Matthew and Paul, and grandson Andrés; his brother John and his wife Audrey Lyndon;, his uncle Ashley Harkness and his wife Kathy; his aunt Sara Topcu and her husband Ali; his nephews Nicholas Lyndon-Williams and Kenneth Lyndon-Williams; and his cousins Janet Harkness, Cynthia Harkness and Daniel Harkness.

David was an avid cyclist and a huge fan of cycling races, and he never missed watching all the legs of the Tour de France and La Vuelta. Two of his fondest memories were riding his bike in France and viewing the Omloop Het Nieubland in person in Belgium. He was a proud Eagle Scout and early in his life enjoyed extended backpacking trips in Northern California. Throughout his life, he enjoyed to travel, whether for work or pleasure. He especially enjoyed extended trips to Europe, where David and Martina spent time at their home in Montbron, France during retirement.

David worked at California State University, Sacramento before joining Intel in Folsom, where he worked for about 20 years before retiring.

Funeral services will be held in person on Saturday, October 14 at East Lawn Memorial Park (4300 Folsom Blvd), with viewing starting at 10am and the funeral service beginning at 11am.

The memorial service will also be livestreamed; please refer to David's obituary page on the East Lawn website and join the livestream at the scheduled time.

Dave was an incredible friend and influence when I was growing up. I fondly remember Dave teaching me how to fix my bike, talking with me about cars, and debating who was the better cyclist: Greg LeMond or Eddy Merckx. Dave took me to my first race, showed me how to fish, and introduced me to Magnum P.I. And Miami Vice. I say that last part kinda jokingly, but Dave was cool like that, if he liked something, he wanted to share his enthusiasm for it with those he cared about.

I was talking to one of the most important people in my life about a week ago, and she asked me about people who had made a huge impact on me. I told her about Dave and she encouraged me to get in contact with him and let him know that I think of him often and how much of a positive influence he was in my life. I´m so sorry I didn´t reach out to Dave sooner, but I hope he hears me and knows what a difference he made in my life.

I can´t imagine how difficult this loss is for Dave´s family, but know that Dave´s memory will always live on in the hearts of the many people that were fortunate enough to know Dave.
