Always in my thoughts....

Don and Marian Rainwater were friends and did play a big part in one of our Christmases by delivering a boat to our driveway on Christmas Eve for the kid's father as a surprise. No greater friendship than this from both of them. Bless them both

Don and Marian were family friends and took care of me and my sibs while my parents were at a conference - when you lived in Del Rosa. I also babysat for Kathy and Lisa..at that time Marian was pregnant with their 3rd. I also like her very much - she was easy going and friendly... My dad Si worked with Don at John Hancock. In my 20's I visited the family in Sacramento. Anyway, Don was such a great guy - full of positive energy and good hearted and a ready smile and laugh. He made a deep impression on me and I remember him with gratitude for having known him. Wish had looked for him before now - he lived a short distance away from my home in Carlsbad CA.

To the Rainwater Family,
Wish that we could attend the service for Don. We will be thinking of him as we often do. There are so many words to describe Don, but one of them is PERSONALITY!!! He could light up your life! He made us laugh, he made us happy to see him, and he was a very special person! He will missed by MANY friends.

It’s hard to imagine not having Don Rainwater in the world anymore. It still hasn’t hit me in the fullest amount, I doubt it ever will. I can’t think of a better role model than my Papa. Everyone he met surely felt his great personality, charm and honesty. He told the best stories, always had the best advice and never managed to offend anyone. I think it’s best to remember him in the way he wanted to be remembered, as an upbeat and truly fearless man. He wasn’t scared of death; he embraced it as a natural part of life. We all wish he would’ve outlived us all and in a way he will. It’s said over and over, but Papa really made such an impact that he will live on in all of us.
I think most of my favorite childhood memories are with Papa. Whether it was a Holiday or just sitting around watching Jaws, I always had so much fun joking around and having time together. I think you tend to take things for granted until they’re gone, I know I certainly treasure the time I had with such a great person. I think one of the last times I saw Papa was on my Birthday when we shopped for a video camera so I can start to shoot my own projects. I think one of the reasons was because I could see how much he believed in what I was doing. It’s one of the best feelings to know that someone trusts your decisions, it really affected me.
I think Papa certainly rubbed off a lot on me. It’s strange to think of why I have such a love for John Wayne movies, but it must be because someone kept talking him up. Maybe I won’t ever share a love for Tommy Bahama shirts, but it’s more of the subtle things about Papa that I’ve found to be the most lasting. The way he treated his friends, family and even mere acquaintances is a quality everyone should have. He always listened and made you feel special, even if you were talking about something he didn’t particularly have interest in. He also made sure he took care of everyone, always helping out in every way he could.
I think Papa will always be remembered in the best way possible. Everyone was vulnerable to his charisma and honorable ways. I’m sure he made mistakes like everyone else; luckily I didn’t get to see any of those. So he will always be remembered as the near perfect human being I grew up knowing. There are not really any words that I can use to explain how much I loved him. No quote, poem or picture can ever match the impression he has made and continues to make on my life. I will always be thinking of him in some way because he was just such a big part of my life. If I can ever be a fraction of the kind of person he was, I will consider myself lucky.

My Dear Conner and Nelson,
Your "Papa", was every kids dream to have as a Grandfather. I remember that on the night you were born,Conner,he left the waiting room and came back with a baseball glove. Nelson, when you were about two years old, I recall him saying to me "That little boy is so cute,he won't need a car to get the girls!" That's always made me smile when I think of it. His words about you were always so filled with admir-
ation and love.
He made the holidays absolutely grand didn't he. He made everything more fun-everything!There was "Pumpkin Patch Time" Thanksgiving, and of course, Christmas, which he enjoyed as much as you did I think..I can just picture him
picking out gifts for you.
Then, there was the BEACH! He always seemed to move into a "higher gear" of happiness when he was there with you.
You were both such a great source of pride for him. You were always perfect for him, just like he was for you. I know with certainty, he will always live in your hearts, and whisper to you
to do great things.
All my love,
Dad

I met Don at his and Marian's wedding reception in the Garrett basement in Sumner washington. I was a close friend to Marian's Brother Don and knew her and the family, He lit up the whole room with his personality. I only saw him a couple of times over the years and stopped and visited he and Marian in Sacremento a couple of times in the late 70's. They were such a great couple and he always welcomed with a big smile, sparkling eyes, a warm handshake and a what'll you have to drink? He is one that will go on living in memory for all of us that knew him.

Dearest Kathy,Angie,and Lisa,
If your lucky, maybe once or twice in your life, you meet a person who makes a unique and lasting impression upon you.Your Dad,was such a person for me.
At a family gathering(which were the best)or party,he was the only one who had ten people around him. He made everyone feel like they were special and important.I always knew I was going to have fun if I were near him.
He taught me how to fish and how to use tools properly, and to mix and lay cement. He even made "projects",as he used to call them. fun!
I would like to share a favorite poem of mine written by Sara Teasdale. It seems so fitting right now.
The Coin
Into my heart's treasury,
I have slipped a coin.
Which time cannot erase nor thief purloin.
Oh better than the minting of a gold crown king
Is the safe kept memory of a lovely thing.
All my love,
Richard

Hey Kathy, Lisa and Angie: Oh my what a loss. I have so many fond memories of growing up with you all--both of your parents were so prominent in my life. I can still hear your Dad saying "Well excuuuuusee me" as he mimicked the voice of my youngest sister. I can see him offering drinks by the pool and inviting us for boating trips or creating any excuse for a party. Christmas Eve at your house was one of my favorite traditions. I have such a huge soft, warm spot in my heart as I think about your Dad. I can only imagine the pain you must be feeling. I am sending tons of love, prayers and support. I would be happy to share stories with any of you as your process this loss and the gift of his life. Much love to you.

Rainwater Family,
What an honor it was to have Don as a father-in-law. I’m going to miss him dearly even though I was often the butt of his jokes. Don seemed larger than life each and every time I was in his presence. I can only laugh thinking of the stories he is telling St. Peter at this very moment. I especially thank my loving wife for allowing me into the fold of her family. Don Rainwater had a huge impact on my life and I’m eternally grateful for the experience.
With Love,

Wow, what a great man. I feel so fortunate to have had him in my life for the last ten years. He was always joking or teasing someone, but it was always positive. He was such a joy to be around. My thoughts and prayers are with all his family and friends. I know we are all going to miss such a special person.
