Dwight Bryan Obituary

BRYAN, Dwight Lee
Age 51, loving father and family man, passed away unexpectedly on May 3, 2009. Dwight was born April 8, 1958 in Oklahoma City, Okla., to Frances and Bob Bryan. Dwight attended the University of Oklahoma, where he graduated with a degree in Business in 1980. Dwight moved to the Sacramento area in 1989. He went on to enjoy a long and distinguished career within the transportation/logistics business, working most of his career for Ryder System Inc. in sales, lease and management roles. He acquired many friends, as well as awards and recognition along the way. He also recently fulfilled his dream of once again owning his own business. But Dwight's real passion was his son Jacob Robert Bryan, born January 20, 1995 to him and his wife, Tracy. Dwight was the Dad who made it a point to be there in every way for his son. He never missed one milestone whether it was a first step, first day of school, or first soccer goal. Dwight was always there for Jacob, cheering him on and relishing every moment. Dwight is survived by his 14-year-old son, Jacob, his brothers David Bryan, of Midwest City, Okla., and Donald Bryan of Oklahoma City, Okla. Services for Dwight Bryan will be held at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, 2620 Capitol Avenue, Saturday, May 9, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to: Trinity Episcopal Church.

I was out of the country during May, and I was deeply saddened to hear of Dwight's passing upon my return.

I worked with him in purchasing his printing business just a few months ago. He was one of the nicest clients I have had the privilege to work with and to know.

My thoughts are with his son and his family.

Dear Tracy and Jacob
I am so very sorry for your loss. Having been your neighbor and friend, I know how caring a father and husband Dwight was.
I will never forget how worried Dwight was when Tracy was getting ready to bring Jacob into the world. Dwight must have walked and paced around our entire neighborhood a dozen times. After Jacob was born, I've never seen a happier new father. God Bless and Keep you. Love, Fahizah and the boys; Sherod, Brent, Rashad and Amir

Tracy and Jacob,
Dwight added so much fun to the lives of many people, including me. Tracy, when I first met you and Dwiggy back in TV days in OKC, I thought "what a wacky couple...always having fun, so unlike other people." The first time I visited your home, I got lost making the 3-mile drive back to my Potato House apartment. I saw a freeway sign and thought I had driven to Tulsa!
(I learned to beware of Dwight's refreshment stand.)
You and Dwight made me feel welcome when I was new to town and I always appreciated that kindness.
Dwight stopped to see us last summer after a trip to Lake Powell. He talked about Jacob non-stop, what a great kid he is and how much he loved being a dad. Jacob, I am sad for you. My dad died when I was 13 and the loss stays with you for a long time. But you are fortunate to have your mom. Tracy is a smart woman and a dedicated mother. I hope you both find peace.
Love,
Vicky

I was fortunate to have met Dwight in college, spending one year as one of his roomates. Without a doubt some of the most memorable times of my life were spent with Dwight during those few years. I have shared many of the stories with my sons of some of the trips to Padre Island Dwight and our group of friends made. I will always remember his positive attitude about life even when we destroyed an RV we rented one Spring Break!

He was certainly a very special person and when I read of his dedication to Jacob I know those things that made Dwight special will be carried forward by his son. Tracy, my thoughts and prayers are with you and Jacob. I am hopeful that someday I'll get to meet Jacob and get to visit with you Tracy, and catch up on all these years that have gone by way to quickly.

We're thinking of you & Jacob in this difficult time and remembering all the fun we had with you and Dwig in OKC. It was D who taught EVERYONE to NEVER park on the lawn!!! He made us all laugh & his various pronouncements were a source of repeated entertainment through the years. We love you and have you in our hearts.

I was deeply saddened to learn of Dwight’s passing earlier in the week. I was blessed with the opportunity to work with Dwight Bryan albeit only for a short time. Professionally, he was an exceptional account executive who was passionate in his ongoing commitment to strengthen his relationship with his much valued and appreciated existing customers. He certainly was a true customer advocate in every sense of the word who served his customers well without fail. Dwight was equally committed and selflessly assessable to his fellow employees to be leaned on in tough times and to celebrate with them in good times. His kindness, mild manner temperament, good natured demeanor and unique aristocratic mannerism style made him a pleasure to spend time with and very easy to befriend.

While I only briefly had the opportunity to meet Jacob, Dwight’s pride and joy, not a conversation ever passed with Dwight that he did not talk about Jacob. My deep admiration and respect for Dwight’s intense fatherly focus on bestowing within Jacob Dwight’s own cherished personal values of honesty, integrity, fairness and commitment to being “a person for others” cannot be understated by this friend. While Dwight’s short life was filled with many significant personal and professional accomplishments, his greatest legacy certainly will be that he will always be remembered foremost as Jacob’s terrific Dad. If there was a Hall of Fame for Fatherhood, Dwight certainly would have earned enshrinement as one of the greatest ever.

While unfortunately the distance will not allow me to be with Dwight’s friends and family on Saturday morning to celebrate his life, my thoughts and prayers will be with them all from a distance, not only on Saturday but for many years to come. May God Bless Dwight as he commences his journey into eternal life and all the rewards of paradise he so richly deserves. Remember as we all experience the pain and sadness of Dwight’ loss in the days and weeks ahead, a beginning is only the start of a journey to another beginning.

On life's journey faith is nourishment, virtuous deeds are a shelter, wisdom is the light by day and right mindfulness is the protection by night. If a man lives a pure life, nothing can destroy him.” Gautama Siddharta
