Ed Keefer Obituary

Ed Keefer
September 24, 1939 - December 30, 2020
Greenville, South Carolina - Sailing, fishing, hiking, kayaking, camping: the Sierras, Donner Lake and Bear Valley he called "his playground" has expanded to where "No eye has seen, nor ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love Him", his favorite verse (1Cor 2:9) which sustained him through difficult challenges of Parkinson's and Lewy Body dementia.
A lifelong local resident, Ed graduated from Sylvan grammar school, under the watchful eye of his Principal father; then from San Juan HS, where he was class president, student body president, and headed fund raising for the first stadium lights of SJ's football field. He graduated from Sacramento State, pleased to have earned Blue Key Honor Society status. He was a campus leader, including drama, choir, track, and TKE fraternity, where friends were made who remain close to this day, which included the weekly Fair Oaks "Duffers" coffee group. He enjoyed being part of his children's school years at Fair Oaks elementary, as PTA president, chairman of the yearly fund-raising carnival and, as the family grew up, always had an open door and an open fridge for high schoolers.
Ed is survived by his wife, Sue, who cherished his love and friendship for 58 years, daughter Jennifer Auslund (John), son Jeffrey Keefer (Elizabeth Ryan), grandson Scott Auslund (Lexie), granddaughters Abigail Ault (Daniel), Hannah Heichel (Grayson), Faith and Sarah Auslund, and great grandchildren Kiefer Auslund, Dean Heichel, and Ella Grace Ault.
Many thanks to the wonderful staff of exceptionally loving care givers, Amy, Felicia, Cheryl and the staff of the Pearl dementia care. Brain tissue donation to study Lewy Body dementia has been completed. Memorial services will be scheduled at a future date.
A faithful follower of Christ, he loved to say, "I became a Christian, for the greatest retirement plan". We will always remember and treasure his wit & wisdom!

I was saddened to hear of Ed's passing. I met Ed when I was a young pharmacist at American River Hospital. I was there from 1966 until mid 1972. If I remember correctly Ed was a pharmaceutical representative for Roerig Pharmaceutical company? He was such a friendly and outgoing guy and we hit it off grandly. If I could hit a golf ball that straight, I'd be a pro. We were always laughing together. He and I both had Jeffs as our sons' names. Our Jeff was also a Hornet. "Stingers up!" Bobbie and I didn't have a Jennifer but a Kimberly & Kristen. I met Sue once or twice sometime in those 6-1/2 years at A.R. I transferred to Mercy San Juan in 1972 and didn't see Ed as much I wanted to. I retired in 2010. In fact, I ran into Ed (but I left him unscathed) ) at the Raleys market on San Juan & Sunset about 3 years ago when i was doing a relief stint at the pharmacy and it was sure great to see that smile again. Can understand why he was so active in hight school and college. His "Duffers" club sounds like a lot of fun too. I've gone to a Friday morning breakfast club composed of many of our retired FOP church members since 2010. Some call it a "Out of Luck" & not a "Joy Luck" club but there are a lot of laughs. Sadly, we lost one to Covid since we stopped meeting because of the pandemic back last March.
My prayers and thoughts go out to Sue and the family. May God bless and keep you all in His care.
Love in Christ,
Vince Sue
P.S. Sue. If you don't mind. Can you send me your email address? I tried calling but I had a
deleted number. Thanks.

I was sorry to read of Ed's passing in the Sacto Bee and my condolences go out to his family. I worked a bit with Ed in Sacramento on a construction related project and I enjoyed his company and found him to be a very caring and up lifting person to be around! Rest in peace my friend!
