Eldon Bower Obituary

Eldon Bower
February 11, 1941 - December 2, 2021
Sacramento, California - Dr. Eldon Bower, DVM, passed away at the age of 80 on December 2. Eldon was born in Loveland, CO to Roy and Lillian Bower. He received his doctorate in veterinary medicine in 1965 and was a practicing veterinarian for 38 years, including 32 years as partner of the South Sacramento Veterinary Hospital until 2001. In July 1969, Eldon married Martha Montgomery. They raised two daughters, Elizabeth and Sarah, and two sons, Roy and Benjamin.
Eldon had a passion for the outdoors and was an avid hunter. He was happiest spending time at his duck club and shared in his favorite pastime with his sons and close friends. When not hunting, Eldon preferred to be at home, surrounded by his large family, regularly cracking jokes and teasing his grandchildren.
Eldon is survived by his wife, Martha, his four children: Elizabeth (Wayne), Roy (Sherri), Sarah (Andrew), and Benjamin (Chloe); his six grandchildren: Georgia, Sam, Juliana, Henry, McKenna, and Ellery; his brother, Stephen (Darla), his niece and nephew, and his beloved dog and hunting partner, Echo.
There will be a small service for immediate family members only. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent in Eldon's memory to Placer SPCA or California Waterfowl Association.

I worked in the front office at South Sacramento Pet Hospital for Dr. Bower back in the early 80's. He was a great vet with a great sense of humor. I remember having to take the charge slips away from him because he would "mistakenly" not charge patients and send them to the front with a zero charge (smile). A good ole sad story was enough for him or even maybe a homemade pie. My dog got hit by a car which broke his back while I was there. Against everyone else's advice to put him down, Dr. Bower said put him in a cage, we'll work his legs everyday and I'll get him to walk again. It was a mission for Dr. Bower that he was determined to accomplish and he did just that. Eight months later Bandit was running around like a puppy. That was a awesome place to work and he was a awesome boss to work for. Rest in Heaven Dr. Bower and keep on hunting those turkeys. DeDe

Dr. Bower offered me my first job in 1987 after graduating Vet School at UCD. I will never forget him telling me that I will be able to see a lot and do a lot at South Sac. Most important he said to me if you never try to help those impossible cases, you will never get those miracle recoveries, boy was he ever right! I teach that to my students till today! He had a great smile and laugh and was a true mentor and friend. I am very sorry to hear of his passing with my deepest condolences to his wife and family.
