Elvira Hamilton "Marie" Johnson

1924 - 2016

Elvira "Marie" Hamilton Johnson, 92, was born in Wheatland, California to Joseph Francis and Rosalie Hamilton. She married William (Bill) Johnson on March 12, 1950, in Wheatland, CA. They enjoyed 66 years of marriage; she was a loving and loyal wife with strong opinions. She was the mother of 5 children, Karen (Ed) Marlow, Sacramento, CA, Craig (Laura) Johnson, Hailey, ID, Diane (Tom) Dysart, Layton, Utah, Nancy Knott, Elk Grove, CA, and Matthew (Barb) Johnson, Chantilly, VA. They raised their young family in Mountain View, CA. Dad and Mom moved the family to Salt Lake City, Utah, in 1965, where they made a wonderful home. In the 1970's Mom was President of Church Women United, Utah Unit, and served on the vestry of Saint James Episcopal Church. In 1979, Mom and Dad moved to West Linn, Oregon where they lived for 36 years. They enjoyed their life in West Linn and Mom was an active member of Christ Episcopal Church in Lake Oswego, OR. Mom was an avid volunteer, she taught children how to read at various schools in the Salt Lake area and she volunteered at the Gladstone, Oregon Nursing home for 21 years, bringing homemade cookies to the residence. In the winter of her life, Mom was a lay volunteer for Stephen Ministries, assisting people going through life difficulties. In August 2015, Mom and Dad moved to Sacramento, CA to be closer to their family. Mom loved traveling with Dad, singing, a good mystery novel, playing Bridge, Sudoku and crossword puzzles. Mom is survived by her husband, William; all 5 children; 9 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; Sister-in-law, Carolee Hamilton, wife of Joseph (deceased); and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; and 5 siblings, H.Midge (Wayne) Thompson, Louis (Ruth) Hamilton, Josephine (Nick) Sohrakoff, Effie (Howard) Boyd, Joseph Hamilton; and a grandaughter, Kathleen. Funeral Services will be held at Saint Mary's Episcopal Church, 9085 Calvine Road, Sacramento, CA. 1:00 pm September 24th, 2016.
