Gabriel Batarseh Obituary

Gabriel Batarseh
July 18, 1944 - October 14, 2021
Sacramento, California - Gabriel Batarseh (known as "Gabby"), was peacefully escorted to his heavenly high-roller table on October 14, 2021, surrounded by members of his loving family. Gabby was born on Manger Street in Bethlehem, Palestine (just a few doors down from the Church of Nativity where Jesus was born) on July 18, 1944, and immigrated to the United States in 1964 to be near his devoted sister and best friend, Ilham Saca. Gabby is survived by his adoring daughter Veronica, his granddaughter and namesake Gabriella (Gigi), his son-in-law Luis Borrego, his sister Ilham, his brother-in-law Anton Saca, his admiring nephews David Saca and John Saca and niece Diana Saca. He is also survived by five great-nieces and nephews, Skylar, Chase, Payton, Jagger and Antonio. Gabby was fiercely loyal and devoted to his family, especially to his daughter, granddaughter, sister, nephews and niece. Gabby was a co-founder and co-owner of Filco Appliances for over twenty years. While at Filco, Gabby's big smile, cheerful spirit and his trademark ten-gallon cowboy hat welcomed thousands of repeat customers. In 1995, Gabby retired from Filco and moved to his estate in Maui, Hawaii. But retirement did not suit Gabby and he soon turned his energies to opening Gabby's Pizzeria & Deli in Lahaina, Maui. At his restaurant, Gabby could often be found in the kitchen formulating delicious unique recipes that won him numerous cooking awards and accolades from his gratified diners. In 2011, Gabby returned to Sacramento to be closer to family and to be an incredibly doting grandfather to Gigi. Gabby relished every day and lived his life to the fullest. He worked hard and played hard. Gabby was a consummate flirt and he would proudly admit that he was quite successful at it. Gabby will be missed by everyone who was graced with his twinkling eyes, infectious laugh, cowboy swagger, feisty temperament, magnetic charm and never-ending generosity. The world lost a bright light, but the heavens gained a shining star. Gabby is and will always be greatly missed, but he will live on in the hearts and minds of his family and friends forever.
Family and friends are invited to attend a funeral service in Gabby's honor on Friday November 12, at 11:00 a.m. at ST. IGNATIUS LOYOLA PARISH, 3235 Arden Way, Sacramento, CA. Masks required. Private burial for immediate family only due to Covid. A celebration of life will be held at a future date.

Aloha,
My name is Michelle Wood and Gabby and I were friends for years. Gabby was one of the kindest and most warm hearted person that I have ever met. We had so much fun playing piano and singing, hanging out at his pizzeria, and always going to multiple restaurants together. I just found out about his passing, and I am saddened beyond belief. What a kind and wonderful man. He will be remembered in my heart forever. If the family wants to reach out to me, I would be honored. Michelle Wood 808-218-2899
