Gail Hart Obituary

HART, Gail Kay (Gutterman) "IRONNANA" Gail Kay Hart (Gutterman), passed away peacefully in her sleep at sunset on October 3, 2014 surrounded by her loving family. Gail was born October 18, 1947 in San Francisco, CA to Janet and Burton Goldstein. Gail lived, in her words, a GLORIOUS life. She had a fabulous upbringing in San Francisco experiencing many great times with friends and building family traditions that lasted throughout her lifetime and will continue into ours. After graduating from UC Berkeley she obtained her teaching credential from UCLA and went on to teach elementary school in Los Angeles for a short time. In 1971, during her spontaneous stint as a stewardess with World Airways, she met her soon to be husband of 23 years, Dr. Jerome Gutterman on a flight to Japan. After residing in Wilkes-Barre, Pa for several years followed by a year in San Francisco the family finally settled in Sacramento, Ca. While raising two children and spending time as an active full time mom deeply involved in all their school and sports activities, she added another career as part owner of the Double Rainbow Cafe‚ from 1980 to 1988. The avid athlete, Gail never stopped moving; taking part in all things fitness ranging from distance running (countless marathons), snow and water skiing, weight lifting (winning 1st Place Female in her first All Natural Body Building competition in 1993), an active and integral part of Team in Training, Buffalo Chips Running Club, and eventually settling into cycling and triathlons. She reinvented herself in 1996, receiving her Sports Training Certificate from Sac State, becoming one of Sacramento's most admired Personal Trainers, building a truly beloved and loyal clientele. October 16, 2004 she married her love Ronald Hart with whom she shared her passion for outdoors, sports, smiles, and life. She went on to compete in countless Sprint and Olympic distance triathlons, century bike rides galore, eventually earning her famously proclaimed and all too appropriate loving nickname "IRONNANA" with her two Coeur D'Alene Ironman finishes in 2004 and 2005. Gail lived with an undeniable zest for life, always smiling, laughing and enjoying time with her family and a diverse group of friends that she considered her extended family. She loved spending time outdoors whether it be on the Sacramento bike trail, at the family cabin in Lake Tahoe, her favorite place on earth (summers boating, cycling and winters snow skiing at Squaw Valley), or simply enjoying a great cup of coffee on her front porch with Ron by her side. Gail is survived by her ever-loving and devoted husband Ron Hart, daughter Jamie Edelen, son Michael Gutterman, sister Barrie (Bill) Taraday, her 5 cherished grandchildren (Jake, Brian, and Luke Edelen, Alexandra and Max Gutterman), Nephew Jeff (Patricia) Taraday, Niece Julie (Gretchen Todd) Taraday, grandniece and nephews, sister-in-law Linda Hart, and her first husband , lifelong dear friend Jerry Gutterman. I met Gail at Kinections, but we really connected when we realized we both had Diva bikes. I often ran into her on the bike trail and it was always a challenge trying to keep up with her incredible pace. She was a lovely, friendly and amazingly athletic woman. My heart felt sympathy to her family and close friends.
