Gregory Norris Obituary

Gregory Norris

March 7, 2024

Sacramento, California - It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Gregory Norris, after a lengthy battle with cardiac issues and cancer. He was a beloved husband, father, and Papa.

A native Sacramentan, Greg graduated from El Camino HS, American River College, and Sac State, accomplished on the basketball court and well prepared for a career in business. After competing on the ECHS and ARC teams, he played with the "Dad" basketball group at St. Ignatius for several years. He was an early season ticket holder when the Kings first moved to Sac, and had a great love of the game. Greg enjoyed fishing and hunting with his friends and added golf to his hobbies in his retirement years. You would often find him in the backyard grilling with his family and friends or building Lego towers or his legendary train tracks with his grandkids.

Greg was preceded in death by his parents, Boyd & Evelyn Norris. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Mary; his son Matt (Megan); his daughter Jennifer Elam (Aaron); his brother Roger (Catherine) and his niece Andrea (Mike). Papa was saddest of all to leave his grandchildren, Landon & Coral Norris and Madison & Logan Elam.

A memorial service for Greg will be held at St. Ignatius Parish on Friday, April 5th, at 2pm with a gathering to follow in their Garden Room. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Almanor Fishing Association or the charity of your choice.

Goose will live in our memory for ever. He was a good guy and had many friends at ECHS, and was a respected and distinguished member of the in crowd.

My heart felt condolences to Mary and Family! I grew up next door to the Norris family in Sacramento!
As a child I have memories of a basketball ball bouncing at the Norris house and when I heard it I would head on over. Greg would always take the time and let me shoot around and when they would be short handed he would always encourage me to play! Simply put he was my hero!. When Greg played in high school and college I would always be invited by his Dad ( Boyd) to go to the game with him. He would, (Boyd) always give me money to get snacks!
He was an amazing Basketball player and a great leader.
Later on in life , I used to golf every week with his Dad and sometimes Greg would play! He to was an accomplished golfer. After golf we´d throw down some beers and talk sports!
Very sad day for me but on a positive side I have those memories and beautiful spirit in my heart!
God Speed Greg and say hello to Boyd and Evelyn
Again, thanks for the memories!

He was always so cool to us rowdy boys when we were in high school. Talked to you with respect even though we were just kids. Sincere condolences to the Norris family from the Fathys.
