Herbert BENNETT Obituary


BENNETT, Herbert DeLoss
85, resident of Sacramento, CA, died October 27, 2013. He was born in Placerville, California, USA on March 8, 1928 and was the son of DeLoss Hiram Bennett and Clara Wilhelmina Thomsen Bennett. Mr. Bennett, a carpenter, worked for 35 years for the City of Sacramento at the corporation yard and retired as the City of Sacramento's Supervisor of Building and Maintenance. Herbert honorably served his nation in the United States Navy as a Hospital Corpsman Third Class from July 1945 to December 1948. He was awarded a Good Conduct Medal and a Victory Medal World War II American Area for his service. Herb was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grand father, uncle, and friend. He lived life to the fullest with vim and vigor, a positive attitude and a thirst for knowledge. He enjoyed carpentry projects for his friends and family, was a Registered Amateur Radio Operator KA6VHF, a United States Army Military Affiliate Radio System (MARS) volunteer AAV9CL, a member and secretary of the Sacramento Amateur Movie Maker's (SAMM), a 30-year volunteer at the Office of Emergency Services (OES), and a 10-gallon plus blood donor at the Sacramento Blood Bank. Herb Bennett is survived by his wife of 18 years, Barbara Evans of Sacramento; his children DeAnn C. (Bennett) Kamilos and her wife Paula M. Kellogg of Sacramento, John D. Bennett and his wife Kathy J. Bennett of Elk Grove, Henry H. Bennett and his wife Yetta Bennett of Sammamish, WA, and Lisa L. (Bennett) Eve and her husband Russell A. Eve of Stella, NC; her children Dean C. Shellenberger and his wife Carol L. Shellenberger , and Mark W. Shellenberger and his wife Shirlee M. Shellenberger; his grandchildren Matthew D. Bennett and his wife Miho Matsuki and their son Noah D. Bennett of Tokyo, Japan, Kristine E. Bennett-Garcia and her husband Abel Garcia and their daughter Kylie M. Bennett of Elk Grove, Erin E. Eve of Washington, DC, John J. Eve of Raleigh, NC, Jennifer A. Bennett and Brian J. Bennett of Sammamish, WA; her grandchildren Michael D. Shellenberger of Sacramento, Jennifer R. Shellenberger of Sacramento and her son Holton W. Winger and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Elizabeth T. (Edwards) Bennett of Sacramento, his four sisters, and his granddaughter Julie M. Bennett of Elk Grove, CA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salvation Army,

Herb Was a very good friend of my father, Ted Tabarracci. Dad just loved him! Herb built a wonderful ramp for my dad when he lost his legs to diabetes. Our family was SO grateful to him for that. We will never forget him.

Herb was a very good friend and partner in several Amateur Radio related activities. We teamed up when helping the CDF with Red Flag Patrols. He was Net Control with the State OES and the BloodSource. He was a handyman's handyman. Very talented. I will miss him greatly.
