Ozzie was a great mentor, friend, and teacher. I grew up a few houses down from him and Lerae. He and my Dad were fishing buddies. Later in life he became my fire science teacher. He greatly influenced myself as well as countless other young people. Weather we all went fishing or visiting with him in his garage he always had a way of sharing his knowledge. Learned a lot from Ozzie, not just about knowledge, but also about being a man. Went back home in 2007,stopped by his house we were able to sit and visit for a while. I took the opportunity to tell him what a great influence he had been to me, and my career path, and just in life in general. I feel fortunate to have known him, definitely one of the most interesting, awesome people I've ever had the opportunity to be friends with.

It was sad to hear of Hollis' passing. We spent many years together on the faculty at Highlands High School. He was a great teacher and friend. He will be missed.

Ozzie was an excellent teacher, a brave firefighter and one of the kindest, most genuinely nice people I've ever met and had the honor to work with in the fire service. His years of dedicated service in ROP, training thousands of young people for careers in the fire service, reflects great credit on himself as a man, a teacher and the community he served. I'm proud to have known him as a friend and comrade at old highway station 23. Paula and I extend our most sincere sympathy to his family for their loss. The work you did will live on not only in better trained firefighters, but better people. All of us are better for the example you set in the way you lived you life. We will miss you Ozzie. Thanks for all you did to serve your community.
