Ilse Achermann Obituary

89 years young Ilse Achermann passed away on January, 26, 2016. She was born in the Bay Area to the late Karl and Elisabeth Kohler but they soon moved to a brick home on a little dirt road called Fulton Avenue in Sacramento in 1929, where her little brother Karl was later born. Ilse graduated from Grant Union High School in 1945 and began working for her parents at K&Z Pork Store on J Street. Ilse met and married a fun-loving Swissman, Joe Achermann. She and Joe were active members in the Sacramento German Club and Sacramento's Swiss Club, S.H.V. They shared 57 wonderful years of marriage before Joe passed away in 2007. Ilse is survived by her three children, Johann, Betty and Bob (Joan); her grandchildren Jim (Sophia) and Katie Achermann; and her sister-in-law, Diana Kohler, nephews and nieces. Ilse was full of fun, determination and joy. Much of her joy came from her friends and family. Throughout her entire life, Ilse was a strong and able person. She had a beautiful garden that she loved and maintained and she kept an immaculate home. Every December she made German Christmas cookies with almonds she would grind by hand. Ilse loved throwing parties for friends and family, serving her famous German Goulash or Swiss Enchiladas. She sang with the German Club's "Harmonie" Choir and she loved attending concerts and the light opera with her three best friends. She would pamper herself on Fridays and always looked forward to her weekly hair appointments which included laughter and relaxation with friends at Petite Beauty Salon. But there was nothing Ilse enjoyed more than sitting at the table after dinner reminiscing with her family and laughing over good times with a full tummy, a full glass of wine and a full heart. Ilse is going to be missed greatly. Her family feels blessed to have had her in their lives for as long as they did. We are very proud to be able to celebrate Ilse Achermann's wonderful life. Her memorial will be private. Donations can be made to the March of Dimes, Sacramento or to the charity of your choice.
